Oddly enough I own a membership to a car share service that I use to make trips to pick up bigger things (Ikea trips mostly), so realistically I'm probably a 99.

I was in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago and while carrying my suitcase on the Subway I thought that people had to have some sort of service that delivered things or leant out cars for larger purchases. Probably the only inconvienence of living in a dense area.

I don't like being told what I do and don't need.
I don't drive inefficient vehicles so I don't expect to be looked down upon by people with high walk scores (which is fantastic if it works for you btw) but that is usually what ends up happening in threads like these.

Hey, so far we are 62 posts in and there haven't been any comments to that effect yet.
Walkability is going to be an increasing concern however as rising taxes and energy costs will cause strain on inefficiently built communities.

8 for me. I would say it should be lower as it is saying the closest hospital is a Vet and the closest grocery store is actually an apple stand.
But hey i sell cars so I am all for needing a car!

If it makes you feel any better, my office is two blocks away from my house and I drive.

I didn't read the whole thread so I am really happy to hear that nobody has gone that route. I don't have a lot of faith in 'us' keeping things civil in these kinds of threads. It is not our history as a group.
I didn't intend to make light of the value of the thread or the information in it. I don't think my comments did that.
I just believe that I have the right to choose where I live. I don't think I should feel guilty about not wanting to live in the high walk score areas of my city, which aren't fit for bringing up children.
Your comment about inefficiently built communitites should be expanded on. I think that is where the most gains can be made in the future.

Yeah, well my office is 10 feet away and i don't even put on pants.
I think I'd walk though if it was 2 blocks away. Unless they were some sort of superlong mega-blocks. With man-eating tigers in the middle.

Yeah, craigslist is full of people offering to pick up things from Ikea or Costco and deliver them for you. It's a bit of a cottage industry. I can get most things I geberally need within 2 blocks of my front door though. Grocery stores, delis, butchers, hardware stores, liquor stores etc. The only downside is that shopping for specific things can be a bit of a transit nightmare. Pretty much everything is available somewhere, but you might have to go to all 4 corners of the island to check off a shopping list, as opposed to hitting a mega mall. That and the fact that the MTA just raised a month pass to over $100 and half the trains don't seem to run on the weekends.

My house had a walk store of 68 in Hawkwood. Definitely some problems with it though. The big green space on the map, ~100m from my house, labelled "Crowfoot Park" is a park. And it doesn't count the Safeway or Co-op that are an easy walk. (I usually drive anyway, since the way home w/ 2 4L milk jugs is uphill) No credit for the YMCA either, which you'd think might count somewhere. Overall it probably over-rates how much walking I do. I could walk to everything in Crowfoot Centre, but I usually drive.

Kids really should be reliant upon their parents to drive them everywhere.
Damn those kids that are able to walk to parks and other places independently!

63. I was expecting higher. I live in Park Hill, 10 minute walk from just about everything.

No worries, I suspect we agree on most respects, but a little bit of 'discussion' can be fun too.
Many dense areas are not great for raising kids, but wouldn't it be great if they were?
While I don't know your area, many dense urban areas are great for families. Calgary has some room for improvement in this regard.

Pretty impossible with all the equipment for ice hockey. I always wonder how the Euros do it, only rich kids play? You drag your stuff on the train?

35 here in Signal Hill, but I bet that'd be less if they took the WestLRT construction into account. A lot of my sidewalks are closed/redirected.

What part of the Beltline?
I'm getting 82 here at 17th and 7th, and would have thought this would be as high as Beltline gets.
