Well two games in and this trade looks good for both sides. Beach brings some size that we we're missing up front. Royer has gotten points in both games.
Nice to see Glover back in net, a bit rusty but he'll do good for Calgary, only one fan riding him all night.

I tried to look at the Hitmen's schedule and they are telling me I need a log-in and password to enter the site. They should probably fix that.

Are you with Shaw? I know they have been having problems with Shaw users accessing their website.

It was the Hitmen's annual teddy toss tonight at the Dome. The Hitmen got the "teddy" goal from Cody Sylvester less than 4 minutes in and held on for a 2-0 win over the Rebels. Fans at the Dome threw 23,096 stuffed animals on the ice after the goal was scored.

No kidding. All games they should have won too. I guess that's why they play the games.
Brutal against Kelowna, just no compete level. Better against Regina, should have won easily, lost in the lottery. Cannot comment on the Hitmen game as I didn't see it.
First real skid of the season. Let's see how they make out on Wednesday.

Tough game for the Rebels yesterday playing their third game in 3 nights and it being the Hitmens Teddy Bear game which they haven't lost in who knows how long now. Rebels looked like they got a second wind in the 3rd peroid after not even showing up for the first two periods but the Hitmen played a Minny Wild style of third peroid and just iced it every chance they got hangin on for the win. Could be a tough month if the Rebels lose RNH to world juniors.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if RNH makes that team. He's the type of player who can raise his game as required. He's a competitor to say the least. The Rebels are not just one player now though so they better raise their game too.

The first time Calgary and Red Deer I was really impressed by Dumba, last game...not as much. That kid has incredible talent for a '94.

Hitmen's first win streak of the season, taking a 3-2 game against the Bruins. Hopefully the start of something good - the Hitmen are much better than a typical last-place team.

Portland has acquired Craig Cunningham and a sixth round pick in the 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Vancouver Giants in exchange for forwards Spencer Bennett, Teal Burns, a first round pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft and a second round pick in the 2012 Bantam Draft.

Portland going from favourites to huge favourites....unreal. I'm a Giant fan and it's been one hell of a run for Cunningham. I wish him the best.

I'm still not sold on Portland's goaltending, but they still do have an overage spot open don't they?

I think so, but not much time to find a goalie before the deadline.
Interesting to see both the Hitmen and Giants as sellers for the first time in forever. The rest of the league must be enjoying the fact that both of the league's elite markets are in down cycles this year. Gives them a chance to shine.

With the deadline tomorrow the Ice have made a huge trade:
Quote:
Cranbrook, BC -- Jeff Chynoweth, General Manager of the Kootenay ICE Hockey Club, today announced the club has acquired 19-year-old Forward Cody Eakin from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for 18-year-old Forward Christian Magnus and prospects Ryan Bloom (1993 Forward- Drumheller Dragons – AJHL), Jarett Zentner (1993 Forward - Calgary Mustangs – AJHL), Colby Cave (1994 Forward - Battleford Stars – SMAAAHL) and Steven Myland (1994 Goaltender - Valley West Hawks – BCMMHL) along with a first and second round draft pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft and a third round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

As great as Eakin is, and he is a huge addition for the Ice, that is a MASSIVE amount to give up for him. Rebels coach, Wallin, said the asking prices out there were ridiculous and he wanted no part in it and he wasn't kidding. That's an unbelievable amount to give up for Eakin.
The Blades will have to give up half their roster for Schenn!

You'd have to think a move like this will generate some excitement in Cran though.. or at least hope.
This is probably the first time the team has brought a big name in via trade since Duncan Milroy.

The rumor right now is that Schenn to the Blades is basically done but just haven't announced anything.
The Wheaties could still move Glennie, the Hitmen have Bubnick and MacKenzie who have been drawing interest. And there are teams out west who still might make another move or 2. Portland still has room for an overager. I wonder if Medicine Hat will make a move to try to keep up with the Ice and Blades?

The Rebels are right in the mix too. Kuemper will not be back next year and there's no goalie really coming through at this point so this might be the year. RNH will likely return next season due to his weight but you never know. They have the best GAA in the league which come playoff time is huge so what do they do? Stand pat while everyone else gets better?
Tough call and I'm glad that it's Wallin calling the shots not me.

Yeah they really are kinda stuck because they don't want to give up assets for a run this year but they don't really know what next year brings. No Kuemper and possibly no RNH. I still think they only make depth moves.
