I had some M$ points so I bought some packs. I got about 2200 from playing (and losing or I would have had 3000) the one tournament.

Are there game modes (online and offline) available without all of this fancy dancy buying of extra stuff? Can you still play against someone with a level playing field (consistent rules and rosters) or is it all about upgrading stuff?

Play versus games online. Just scored my first goal with Tangs against San Jose.

Edit: Tanguay just got another!

So you're playing games while posting on the forum? Maybe I'm just getting old, but damn, that's multitasking.

I bet that when you were beating up on me on that NHL 10 league (that we tried here on the forum) you were probably doing so with one hand on the controller and another on your... nevermind.

you can play online without buying stuff with real $. I don't intend on investing a penny more into my gaming other than extending my xbox live membership in Nov.

You get pucks (HUT currency) by purchasing MS points OR by just playing with your team online/offline. I lost my 2 games online with my garbage team but still picked up about 500 or so pucks in those 2 losses.

You need 6500 pucks to get a jumbo pack (which has decent players in it), so, it's do able.

Nice, my first win online 5-0 against San Jose. Hagman 1g1a, Jokinen 1g1a, Tangs 2g.

Ugh, the AI is atrocious again this year.

Gotta say, I am feeling let down. I have fun up until I actually have to play.

I can't imagine HUT is all that fun online with dummy AI teammates.

HUT isn't fun because my goalie stops pucks as good as an empty net.

I'll trade David Legwand for a NHL calibre goalie. Any takers.

Does anybody have some pointers on how to score on penalty shots/shootout? I've practiced it a lot today and have NHL 10 so I am familar with the moves and stuff.

But I just find I only score about 20% of the time. When I fake a shot and deke I'm having trouble getting the puck up and the goalie usually makes a pad save. Forehand-backhand is the only deke I can score on.

If I just come in and shoot, I never score.

Any tips?

No matter what I do I always, ALWAYS hit the post.

Unless I miss the net from 1 foot away.

So would you all recommend I go back and play the demo to try to win the tourney for the extra pack or just say screw it and start one pack down. I did the other stuff to get the other packs

I'm liking the HUT so far. Started out w/ Jordan Staal, Mattias Ohlund, and Fabian Brunnstrom. I've scored 4 goals in 3 games w/ Carsen Germyn too.

I never noticed anything good. I didn't get anyone good until I bought some Jumbo Packs, then I got Roy, Iginla, Legwand, Gagne.

The starter pack and free packs are beyond terrible.

Question: How bad is the Be a GM preseason glitch? Does it destroy all the fun, or is it just an occasional annoyance (like sending down high quality 2-way contracts from NHl10)?

Well I just got The Monster, he should help my goaltending woes drastically, 84 NHL goalie > 71 AHL goalie.

3 Justin 3, you should make your own thread so I can keep intimately updated with your stats and highlights.

It would probably also help the people in this thread who don't care about your constant updates. That doesn't include me, of course, who remains riveted.

Maybe a blog?
