My Macro is crap it seems. I can get going fast with the right build order but as soon as I start going in my Macro goes to crap. Also need to learn which units work best against which units.
So much to learn there is.

Void ray won't work since by the time I get one out, chances are he's got more than 6 marines with stim which is all it takes to take down a void ray. Dark Templar also won't work since it's very heavy on gas. That would mean I have to get twilight council plus dark shrine. The gas required means I have to sacrifice getting sents. Not to mention time require to get a first dt out. By the time I get a dt out Terran will have eng bay for his infantry and turrets for observers.
The point is, Terran player can mass infantry and if I focus on tech then he's going to make a push with stim. The best counter for mass infantry is colossus and they usually make a good push before I even get one out. And they're gas heavy which means less stalkers less sents. And zealot without charge gets owned by stimmed marines and grenaded marauders.

I usually play toss but right now Terran can easily finish the game with marines and marauders with stim and grenade early game. Obviously that's before I can even get a colossus out or get chargelots. Any race is great if you exploit the full capability of that race but that takes time, especially for toss and the problem is Terran can easily destroy you with their infantry only.

I've had a lot of success against the first Terran push (some marauders, some marines) by going heavy zealots and sentries. Forcefield behind them so that they can't kite and your zealots will rip em apart.
Then you can go down the High Templar tech path since you've already opened it and storm the out of their infantry ball. Not to mention half of the Terran units can be Feedback'd (Thors, Banshees, Medivacs, etc)
Oh, I was talking about this guy with Fish last night (he's trying to figure out my weakness for the tourney) so I might as well put it in here too.
Day9 is a great guy to watch if you want to be a better player. Rather than just PM the link to fish I'll post it here cause I'm sure he'll read it.

This one is really good. Little drawn out though.

Also don't you get placed in diamond if you win all your placements? During the beta, they placed me in diamond after winning all 5 but they only placed me in plat after winning all my placement matches.

I will testify to getting owned by dark templars once. But it taught me my lesson and I now have ravens with my army and MT's in my base.....I have also been scanning and scouting alot more after watching torture play, and my win ratio last night was 6-1 .....woot woot. Mass an army, and then distract while sending vikes in behind for a little dinner on their scvs...then when they pull back the army, pull up the vikes and attack from the front...
what was that basketball commercial with t-mac? "create confusion"

They changed it so that you have to get bumped up into Diamond. The highest you can be placed is Platinum.

Oh damn that's annoying. Also does anyone know how the league promotion works? It just doesn't wanna promote my 2v2 rank regardless of the win ratios.

BTW Void Ray opening does work some times against Terran. Just ask Fish
WhiteRa did it all the time, but yes if they have stimmed Marines it's kind of over already cause void rays are so expensive.

Keep playing If you're playing against 'favored' players all the time you know you're close just keep it up.

In theorycraft, maybe. Watch replays of Whitera (actually he's Duckloadra now because he got sponsored) to see the awesomeness of an early void ray, especially on maps with a close air distance.
And those 6 marines with stim will still get eaten alive if you charge up on the refinery first. Remember, you're not going for an instant win, you just need to buy some time. If he's defending from a void ray in the back of his base then he can't push out to attack until he invests a bunch of money in turrets to defend. You could even atttack the front door with zealots and force him to split his attention if you want. By then you're way ahead.
It's often a razor thin margin in Starcraft. One player will be slightly ahead for a minute until the other one zooms past him. There's a give and take to it and the more you play the more you realize when you have to defend and when there's a chance to take advantage.
If you want to cry overpowered I'm not going to stop you but my brother (Torture) plays protoss at a high level and used to have trouble with the infantry ball as well. Eventually he sat down and figured out a way to crack it. Find something that works with your playstyle and you'll be rocking PvT in no time

Yea I've been picking up alot of stuff from Tortures games, I was wondering if it would be possible to watch one of yours 0910, since you play Terran like me, just so I can see how T is played at a higher level.

You bet. Just add me as a friend and you can view my match history and watch any games you like.
I actually just lost a game to Protoss even tho I had a scan at the ready and a turret in my mineral line because his DT's decimated my army and attacked my base while I was pushing at my opponent.
Even if you have detection, DT's are deadly because they can get in the back of your base without your knowledge and wreak havoc while you wait for an army to arrive. It's like a zergling runby with one shot kills.
Since getting bumped to Diamond, Protoss is actually the race I have the most trouble with. On paper it should be easy - build a turret and you counter both Void Rays and Templar but the turret also has to be supported by an army which is difficult when you're trying to be aggressive. I find that what happens is I leave my base and the templar demolish my turret as soon as the SCV's run away. Then if I'm lucky I have energy for a scan to clean it out. If not, my army gets picked apart while I wait on the scan and either way, the next round is in before the next turret is built.
I know I could take on his army in a head-on fight but three units leave my economy in shreds. How do you move out and defend your base at the same time? Terran's biggest weakness is immobility - even with an infantry army.

I think Terrans do have an advantage in the early game against Zerg because of a combination of Terran flexibility and Zerg limitations in the early game (at least until they get Lair tech). As a Terran, you can pretty much bank on facing zerglings and a few queens because there are literally few other options. Yes, Roaches can be added, but it essentially just delays that all important Lair even more... Knowing this, I think its very easy for the Terran to take the initiative and abuse the match up with their various harassment openings. If there is any imbalance in ZvT, I think its here.

Promotion isn't strictly based on win ratios, although if you keep winning, you will get promoted anyways. You just have to keep beating people in your own league or lower AND show that you can consistently compete with those above you. Also, keep in mind that the game needs a good sample size of games before deciding to promote you or not. I'm guessing like 20-30 games or something like that?

oh dear lord...
In other news...I've been re-watching Mad Men episodes because - hey! I'm unemployed, what else am I gunna do?
Anyways, the title of the files is tpz-madmenxx.avi
I can only assume tpz stands for Terran, Protoss, Zerg...but I have no idea how these relate to Mad Men.

So my buddy and I decided to leave our 5 placement matches so we could get some free wins for the portraits. So we're in bronze and we figured we'd be in diamond after 20-30 wins or something like that but battle.net refuses to promote us and we're still sitting in bronze while our stats like 40-3 excluding the placement matches. I guess that's what we get for trying to cheat the reward system.

You get promoted based on your skill level IN the game, the game calculates your macro and micro skills... if you don't got them and win by cheesing you wont get promoted. Or if you mass 1 unit every game and win you wont be promoted.

Not true. It doesn't take into account any in game metrics. Just wins and losses.
