Hopefully the kid can develop into something similar to a Rick Rypien type...

As a Lethbridge Hurricanes season ticket holder, I have watched Bancks for years and can tell you he is nothing like Rick Rypien. He does not fight much or agitate other players whatsoever. What he is though, is a player who is solid both ways, gives his all every single shift and is a great team leader. I can see him in a 4th line energy role if he ever makes it up to the big leagues.

If you can't learn something from an expert in 2 weeks, then the problem is either that the teacher can't teach, or the student does want to learn (or they're dumb). These are professionals, they can pick up changes to their mechanics that will help. Sure they can't change they're entire skating style, but if you don't make adjustments to your game, you won't make it to 30 years old in any professional league.

hmmm... maybe a squirt gun is all we need to teach sutter to not trade away our assets for leaf retreads or make stupid signings... email to Ken me thinks??....

Hasn't Sarich had some leg injuries. He may have picked up bad habits favouring one leg over the other and now is taking instruction to correct these.

both him and moss were out yesterday skating, and both were out with leg injuries (if i recall) in the past year, so me thinks you are onto something.

He either broke or seriously hurt his left foot(IIRC) last year.
Something like that.

Not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but does anyone know if they're charging for parking at the Saddledome during the sessions? Hopefully I can make it tomorrow or Friday (or both).

A guy at my work said that he has a friend that's friends with Negrin and he has to get surgery again.
Anyone know if this is true? Has he been skating this week?

But the most stirring family story of perseverance as likely belongs to Jacques Lamoureux. At 15, he wrote a farewell letter to his family, stood atop a parkade and pondered jumping to his death.
Fighting depression, he chose to live because he hated the thought of hurting his family by killing himself.

How many hockey players have you ever seen who are close to 30 eayrs old (Sarich example) have improved their speed? Not saying it isnt possible but at that age, the chance of it happening is very low. Sarich is what he is.

But he's had an injury that's likely kept him off the leg for some time, I think it's just a rehab thing. And I'm sure a little training can't hurt his overall footspeed, he might get a little quicker with it.

Hmmm, Jarome Iginla comes to mind although younger (and then Bertuzzi commented on how he had followed Iginla's lead). After the lockout and with the new rules many players lost some weight and got faster. You guys must all be younger than 25, you can always improve, otherwise why have a coach out there? Being a professional is all about adjustments, if you don't you don't last... unless you're a superstar maybe.
I would think Sarich is more interested in pivoting and the first couple of strides more than overall speed anyway... but that's a guess.

Some brief updates from Steinberg following Wednesday's on-ice session (focus on Mitch Wahl, Greg Nemisz and Tim Erixon only):

How is Nyren doing at the camp? In the playoffs this year for the Hitmen there were a number of times when he put the team on his back and carried them. If his skills can translate, he's exactly the kind of player I would want on my team.

I watched the afternoon session today. Pleasant surprises for me were Nick Larson and Spencer Bennett. Irving, Ortio, and Lamoureux all acquitted themselves well in net. Nyren had one nice goal that I saw but that was the only time I noted his number. Last four guys on the ice passing around and taking shots on net: Backlund, Erixon, Wahl and Cameron.

Wow....this is the most quiet it has been on here about prospect camp in a long time. The team finally has a group of players that have a decent shot at making the NHL at some point in their careers. But hardly anyone is going to the skates and reporting back.
Is it apathy towards the team after a bad year and a stubborn "let's try this again + retreads" approach from the GM?
Or does everyone spend their time gazing at twitter now?
Living in SF, I miss the updates on players.

It's true, passing drills and breakouts don't necessarily provide a great measure of an individual player. They're just kind of doing zig-zags and figure eights around the ice and so there isn't much creativity on display (although Bryan Cameron tried a through-the-legs goal on one of the standard drills today). It's fundamentals, and so hard to get a full read on a player.
