I guess there's no way to save it once it starts tipping over, I wonder if the wind contributed to the crash.

Looks more like a loss of thrust in one engine. Wind doesn't toss a plane off axis like that.

Wind has been surprisingly calm here for the last week or so. It's been an odd year for weather overall.

These planes crash more than the media reports. I used to get copies of the RCAF Flight Comment magazine. They get tons of bird strikes ect up in cold lake, sometimes smashing the canopy and almost killing the pilot. We probably lose a plane every 6 months to a year. I was in cold lake one time up in the control tower on a tour, they had an CF-18 coming in with no avionics because his computer crashed. It was pretty awesome watching the wingman coming in with him until 50 feet above the runway then going full afterburner to take off again.

They don't write off the plane for all of those, there's no way they lose a plane every 6 months. I used to be a civilian engineer at Cold Lake CFB for CF-18 instrumentation. And the pilots for Cold Lake CFB are very very skilled, some of the best in the world.

You're probably right, some had just skidded of the runway. In one issue the pilot managed to fly back to base covered in feathers and blood after his canopy smashed. According to wiki we've lost 18 including the crash today.

Crash is an bit of an overstatement. Sure there are lots of incidents, but the media covers every crash.

Man, takes skill to get quality shots like that off so fast.
Also like how that parachute is so cheerful.

Those pics are phenomenal. I would expect the front page of most papers in the country will be featuring at least one of those tomorrow.

God I hate the video player on Global's website, it keeps stopping the video and inserting an ad without continuing to play the video after the ad's done.
