I was at the old Colosseum last night and there isn't a single movie poster anywhere that I saw for this movie. Strange given that it's a $160 million flick. It's lackluster advertising might kill it at the box-office unless it goes all Sixth Sense and gets good word-of-mouth.

I doubt that your experience at one theatre in Calgary of all places will be representative of how much advertising it's received.
Honestly think it'll be just fine, even without god word-of-mouth reviews.

Well I generally only start threads or comment on movies that I like, so you're generally not gonna see many negative reviews from me. Having said that, I've bashed plenty of the summer movies so far this year. I'm a sucker for a idiotic leave your brain at the door popcorn flick, but the flicks this summer have been trash. Robin Hood, A Team, Predators all sucked huge balls for many different reasons. And like I said in my review of Inception, it kind of opened my eyes to the crap that I have been defending as "cool". Inception is very cool, but also very smart and well crafted. A nice treat.

Did Inception already come out in Canada, or did you go to an advanced screening?

The A-Team rocked.
I'm going to see Predator too and I bet that rocks too!
With that said, Inception will be even more awesome. Catch it during the week sometime when it isn't as busy.

The best movie I've seen in a very very long time. There is nothing I can think of to compare it to as far as the storyline goes. Not matrix like at all in a sense that the movie is not built around the effects. Really long movie but was never bored, I would sit for longer, it was that good. Cerealously

Glad you liked Inception, but your comment about the Matrix was a little off. The first Matrix had plenty of amazing effects, but the movie wasn't built around them. The Matrix was a very fresh and smart sci fi movie. The second and third movies thought they could just get by with CGI and a weak plot. But the first one was a massive achievement.
But back to Inception talk.......

I posted this is the Recommend (or Dont) a movie thread....but I guess it belongs here as well....
Just got back from Inception and oh my freaking God! It is one of...if not the best movie I think I've ever seen. The writing is flawless. Zero plot holes at all. In most movies like this I'm the guy who is like.."well they could have prevented this by just doing this...it seems so simple." Not here. I was left speechless after watching this movie. The premise alone is mind boggling, but the execution is fantastic. Nolan deserves best director honors hands down for this film. Filming some of the sequences he did seemed next to impossible, especially with the very limited amount of CGI used. My friend and I actually considered walking across the hall to the next theatre to watch it again.
10/10 easy

Here's the perfect comment from Roger Ebert. I couldn't agree more and was thinking something along these lines on Wednesday, I just can't articulate it like he can.
“Here is a movie immune to spoilers: If you knew how it ended, that would tell you nothing unless you knew how it got there. And telling you how it got there would produce bafflement. The movie is all about process, about fighting our way through enveloping sheets of reality and dream, reality within dreams, dreams without reality. It’s a breathtaking juggling act.”

I just got back from the theater and I have to agree, this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. 1/3 of the way into the movie I was thinking to myself just how awesome it was.

I can't sleep right now. Inception just blew my mind!! Go see it! Definitely one of the best movie of the decade (if not, THE BEST!). Wow, Ok, maybe hyping it up is what disappoints people. So...instead, yeah the movie was just ok...
No it wasn't!! It was FREAKING AWESOME!!!

Very good film, saw it tonight in IMAX. Can't imagine a movie being any better than this, pace was perfect, writing was impeccable. Acting all around was solid, as is always the case with DiCaprio.
I'll be seeing it again, and I never watch movies in theatres twice.

I think it just cracked my top 25 of all time list. Blew my mind multiple times and totally lived up to the hype. Nothing ever lives up to the hype these days.
I gave Nic Cages Bad Lieutenant a 10/10 the other day because I enjoyed the hell out of it as a twisted black comedy. But compared to Inception it's like the 1 cup that belonged to those 2 girls, with Inception being a tub of double chocolate haagen daaz.
It made me want to look at the movies I've considered great lately and re-evaluate them. Because it sets the bar so high. I wish all movies aspired to be this great instead of just making a profit.
I can't throw a 10 out so easily anymore. But Inception truly deserves the 10. Thank you Christopher Nolan. He's joined elite company for directors now as far as i'm concerned.
edit erhaps I was too harsh comparing Bad Lieutenant to 2 girls 1 cup when put up against Inception. I still maintain that it was one of the best movies of last year and is a masterpiece of black comedy. Inception though, is one of the best of the decade.

I agree - pulling off two movies (Inception and Memento) of this complexity is no small feat.
