I'm debating going. I don't really want to line up with the crowds and while I do like the original Star Trek series more than the new ones as a casual fan, I really don't need to see the actors or anything but all this silly talk of it being Nimoy's last appearance EVER is swaying me. I have a feeling the crowd would be insane and I wouldn't even be able to get in the room.

Something about the last opportunity to see something always gets me, like seeing the Police on their last tour when I was Montreal, etc.

I do read comics but I really have no deep interest in them or comic artists/writers whatsoever and my interest in anime and most science fiction died with my adolescence. There's nothing else I really want to see at this convention yet I still feel the need to go because of this "last ever" business. Arrrgh!

What else is there to do/see/buy there? What is it like? Just a bunch of tables with the sort of stuff you find in a comic store?

From the posts on the previous page, I'm still not convinced there are any "chicks" worth going to see.

There's a lot of comic booths, but what I found most interesting are the unknown artists who do a lot of cool work that you can purchase. Even my wife, who only went to humour me, was fascinated by some of the prints and bought them for the house. The prices for a lot of them are really good ($5-$20).

We also bought a deck of cards where each of the 52 cards were done by a different artist and some of the pictures are magnificently twisted.

The other thing you might get a kick out of is people-watching. The folks in the amazing costumes, the folks in the god-awful homemade costumes, the guys that the Simpsons' Comic Book Guy was based on. They are all there.

I'm only an atomic nerd because I used an atomic clock to win one of the annual CP first to post @ 8:00 AM contests.

I stopped being a nerd-nerd after my teenage years. My own interests are really only in classic sci-fi (like 60s-80s), 1980s anime, and 1980s toys and comics. I pretty much hate all modern stuff. It's just more the stuff of childhood nostalgia that I like, not really nerdy stuff per se. And you know old toys and collectibles will be at rip-off prices at pretty much any convention.

Maybe I could wear my 1986 Transformers the Movie (you know, the good one with Orson Welles and Leonard Nimoy and no Shia the Beef) T-Shirt there

So the comic expo is in two halls at the Roundup Centre and the Woman's show is in another two.

I picture this epic scene of nature in which cougars from the woman's show come over and try to "hunt" the clueless virgins from the comic expo, they would be slaughtered like lambs by these cougars!

So I'll be down there tomorrow, a question for everyone. Which t-shirt to wear:

-Green with the Mario Bros. 1up mushroom on it
-Black with the Mario Bros Bullet Bill on it
-Brown with Mario on it

I wore the green one last year, so I'm am debating on the other two personally.

Well, this gave me incentive to go. Cougars FTW.

What if I wore my heavy metal t-shirt, would nerds cower in fear?

I think Heavy Metal T-Shirts are nerd domain too. Anything that is a bit out of date.

I've seen more nerds rocking the Piano Cat T-Shirt, but a Wolf T-Shirt will do fine. Another overdone nerd shirt is the Cake is a Lie shirt. I barf whenever I see one of those.

So if I wanted to go the Nimoy panel but really have no interest in looking at comics, talking to artists, cosplay, etc., what time should I get there? Are there long lines?

There is a hall in between the two...I think that right before close the two shows should be forcibly emptied into the centre call and people have to interact...it would be like the world's largest 5th grade dance...

It'd be funny if the hall in between is the sex trade show that appears there every now and then.

Geek Convention | Sex Trade Show | Cougar Convention

This is a movie that needs to be made.

What a mass of people. The line to see Nimoy must be 3-4 hours. And there is an an alarming number of grown women lined-up to see the Twilight dudes.

You can get your picture with various Star Wars characters.

No one was lining up to see Erin Grey - I felt sorry for her.
