I'm 2nd year EE at UofA, likely taking streams in Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology and maybe a Control Systems stream as well.
|
Does the U of A offer Biomed??
If it doesnt and you have to come to Calgary you will be stuck with Dr. Minchev......

Its a small program. One of the things I'm looking into is Bionano, and UofA is apperently where its at for Nano. We'll see how it goes, though.

Stantec, they tend to screw there employees a bit, like trying to force them to pay for parking in a neighborhood that you can park for free, but they have all the coolest projects around.
Oh ya I would apply for the P.Eng yesterday, it is now taking Apegga 8-12 months to process your application even though they just doubled the fee.
|
Haha, don't get me started on Stantec. Like I said, they're a great place to start because they do get very cool and high profile projects, so you can get some great experience, but if you want to be treated like you matter, don't stay too long.
That parking nightmare is such a scam. Especially with all that free road to park on. Worked for me, even if I did need a smoke break every two hours to make sure my car didn't get chalked.

I am done 3 years of Electrical Engineering at the U of C.
I am currently on internship until September when I go back for fourth year.
So the EE list includes
Myself, kermitology, Cheese, Phanuthier, jcody, and HelloHockeyFans....
|
Add me to the list. I'm done three years as an EE in the consulting industry. Get my stamp at the end of the year.
Kermit, if you can't get an EE job in Alberta you'll never be able to. Pound that pavement!
Three years I couldn't find work in Edmonton, so I made the trip down south and dropped off seventy resumes. I got 2 phone calls, one interview, and a job.
Try Stantec if you're interested in the consulting area of engineering. It might not be the best place long term, but it's a great place to start and the boss on the utility side is a great guy. They're always looking for good people.
Ugh Stantec? Youve got to be kidding? The BIGGEST you are a number not a name company in Canada. A Joke everywhere. They pay the least of all the Consultants.
If you want to work for the best Consultant in Calgary...in EE...apply at Stebnicki Robertson and Assoc. They have the best jobs, the best personnel and they dont treat you like a number.

I've got a few connections at General Dynamic Canada, and would love to work for Enmax in their EIT, but I'd have to wait another year to apply. I'm just focussing on finishing school first.

Already said that. Of course, your wage complaint doesn't jive. I was making more than my counterparts at StebRob. I also know of one guy in particular over there at StebRob that has yet to receive a raise in the last five years. Or so he tells me.
Stantec will pay you dirt if you let them. If you make your voice heard, though, it doesn't have to be that way. I'm living proof, and I'm not the only one. All that said, though, I'm glad I'm outta there now.
Of course, at StebRob you get slotted in one little niche where you can't expand. You've got a big giant ******* in charge (Robertson) and a whole whack of partners that want out because of that big giant *******. I would call StebRob anything but stable right now.
You must be glad Stantec didn't end up buying StebRob. Came close though.

I would also love to get into the EIT program.
I am hoping to do it. We have two former EIT's and they have experience at Enmax LRT, Transmission, Residential Power and Street Lighting, Distribution, and of course Envision.
Can you imagine putting all that on your resume!

They are insane.
I remember when I was working at Keen, there biggest competition was Stebnicki.
Mulvi Banani(sp?) is another, and so is Wieb Forest.
One of our family friends owns a structural engineering company here in Calgary and he was saying once that Stebnicki gets so much work, that they send out half ass drawings because they cant keep up. And people keep going to them because of the name.

I'm a 4th year business student at the U of C, but not graduating in April. That comes next year.
I also work part-time in marketing at a certain tourist attraction on the west side of downtown with a big white dome.
Oh, and I have a job lined up this summer to become a senior investment accounting/banking technical consultant programs market communications oil-and-gas whoop-de-do manager / analyst.
Sorry, I like to make fun of my fellow business students.

I am a government agent.
Been working on a degree, off and on for 16 years now. Business Management is the current major. Starting to think I don't have the time to finish it off. Then again, the University I attend is not exactly doing a great job of catering to adult students. Very few night and internet courses...especially in the upper divisions. I have had to drop this entire semester because of work conflicts and the job is way too good to let go.
I may start to look at some distance learning programs at large out of state universities. That probably won't cost much.

I'm a business student about to enter the working world, but I've decided to ditch my degree and become a manager of a McDonald's. That's where the real potential lies.
I've pulled all my money out of my mutuals and RRSP's and went and spent it on wine gums and cheetos.
I also plan to get butt-naked and pass out in a street from drinking too much vinegar. I'm hoping somewhere down the line I'll crap my pants too and make a sorry state of myself.
I also plan to egg all the engineers houses and then soil myself over and over.

So with that position, I'm sure you're the scrub who runs the coffee every morning? How about the guy who orders lunch and has to wash dishes at 4 o'clock? BTW banking with Monopoly money doesn't count.
