I think I need to clarify a few things here.
1. There is no proof that a militant homosexual organization is influencing the conservative movement. That weapons cache found at the Twisted Element was legitimately acquired for recreational purposes.
2. While we may strongly advocate credit card debt as a solution to society's problems, we have not forced that way of life onto the population directly.
3. We supported Belinda Stronach because girl was fierce. She was a diva, and we felt modern conservatism needed a few more divas. There was no deviant ulterior motive behind our backing of her campaign, and we certainly had no idea she would defect.
4. We do admit, homosexuality is indeed pretty wickedly awesome.

I'm with Muta, if Ric "blinky" McIvor wins I don't know if I could stand it. Assuming there is another high profile candidate who runs I'll be volunteering for that campaign. I'd much rather have a lifetime of Bronco than even 6 months of blinky.

Hey, I'm one of those municipal politicians and I'm quite sane. Another member here has contacted me as he's been considering running, and as far as I know he's sane also.
By the way, there is a high-profile candidate going to run and stands a good chance.

I think Bronco did a lot for this city and could probably get re-elected again. I was surprised to hear that he's not going to run again.

One name being mentioned on Global TV is Ken King.
I could vote for him!

I am actually worried what will happen to Calgary now. As much as I hate Bronco he did a good job moving Calgary forward after Duerr screwed us by nothing building anything. Now with Bronco leaving, what will happen with the infrastructure the city needs? I really hope it continues to be build.

I just hope the next Mayor keeps moving this city forward and continue building rather than being home hum on making infrastructure improvements and the such. Bronco appear to have done a good job in that regard and it should continue.

Interesting. Considering the mess that the Flames were in when he took over, I'd definitely consider him.

chandler is a fair bit right of mciver. i think i remember reading something in calgarybeacon on how chandler won't directly participate in mciver's campaign (should mciver choose to make a run).

Given the incredible apathy and the low voter turnout, a proper Jihad could carry this thing. Just need to pick somebody reasonably presentable on CP (Troutman? ), and then get to work... In all seriousness, if CP unites behind a candidate, that's a bigger base than anyone else can bring to the table...
Just thinking aloud...

Oh the melodrama! You sound like those John Kerry supporters back in '04:
"If Bush wins again I'm going to seriously consider moving to Canada."
I think our lack of culture in this city has more to do with the nature of employment in the oil patch (Engineers, accountants, and finance people) than whether or not our city council shuts down Memorial drive for a day in the summer, buys out the Cecil for $11 million, or builds an expensive pedestrian bridge.
All that said I do agree with the general sentiment that Rick Mcivor would be a terrible mayor. Anyone that pops up on a google search of Chris Chandler should be considered with great caution. Rick was a valuble member in city council because he was often one of the only council members that raised the issue of fiscal restraint, zero-based budgeting, et al. Problem is as many have pointed out, he would probably run the city with little regard to building a liveable city and would cater to subburbanite shut-ins.
