I used to appreciate the music of NIN, but after seeing a concert, I think they suck.

I think you have to look at what they initially brought to the music scene, something different....today not so much. I'm not a fan, but I enjoy listening to it from time to time, they're decent.
Side note: How 'bout the Canadian Woman's Hockey Team? 3 minutes left in the 1st and are destroying the Swedes 5 - 0.

As I've stated before. Reznor is as formulaic as Kroger or Pete Wenz. Trent isn't God's gift to music.

Was he really all that innovative for using a computer, though? MIDI has been around since 1982 and was definitely used in pop music both at that time and in the years since. Synths, drum machines, and sampling were obviously huge in the early 80s. Maybe you want to talk about computers specifically instead of gear (although I think the difference is negligible - consider the Fairlight CMI)? As lame as an example as it is, Herbie Hancock's album Future Shock, was sequenced entirely on Apple IIs via MIDI, in 1983.
I personally don't think Trent Reznor was very innovative for using computers, and the argument could probably be made that his sound wasn't even all that original. But what I think he did was bring his pop sensibility to "industrial" music, which was pretty original (or, at least, hugely successful). He also wrote some great tunes, IMO.

As a I'm sure numerous people on CP know I'm a diehard NIN fan. I've seen them 4 times and frequently post about the awesome things Trent has done in the last few years.
I don't get insulted in the least when people say they think it is crappy music. I'm even one of the people who trash Nickleback as being total commercial crap. I trust in the artistic integrity of Trent and don't for a second get bothered when people disagree.
I do think there is good music and bad music but most bands can only really be judged subjectively.
