I take it personally, sorry... but that's fact.
And to the people saying "what's the big deal, it's just having a little fun, don't be so serious!" Last time I checked, cancer isn't fun and is pretty serious. If this turns out to be the new fad like those braclets everyone purchased, then so be it... but at least people put money towards research with those.
Next time, forward this link ( http://www.breastselfexam.ca/) in the mass e-mails to your girlfriends. It would be of more help than a vague color in a status.

Ummm... cancer isn't fun. Promoting breast cancer awareness through underwear colour is. I don't see the issue. I think the fact that it quickly turned in to a widespread phenomenon shows people regard it very seriously.

Just asked the GF, who at the time had, skin-tone as her status. "Do you plan on getting a breast exam anytime soon?" To which she answers "no". "Has this this change your status to your bra color, created more breast cancer awareness for you", answer "no".
Changed my opinion.

From viewing the comments on everyone's status updates, it appears 99% of the discussion is actually cracking jokes about the persons bra colors. I did see a hint of cancer discussion, but that was just the girl briefly describing why the status is even a color. People took it seriously? Hardly...

"a hint" = 1% (which is less than a full post due to sample size)

ok, is "a hint" of discussion > 0 discussion ?
the point is, while there are people out there who feel that a vast majority of this facebook bra discussion isnt breast cancer related, it still brought some discussion as opposed to no discussion at all
Unlike the november marketing campaigns, breast cancer organizations havent spent a cent on this kind word of mouth awareness.
free, a fun trend and has brought some awareness... sounds like a win to me

Mathematically speaking, "a hint" is an infinite increase over 0.

But what good has it really done for breast cancer awareness? Does anyone on Facebook really not know about breast cancer to the point where someone posting "purple lace!" and eight dudes responding, "Ooh, hot, lol" is really doing to anything to really help the cause in any possible way? If anything, the constant sexualization of and cutesy-poo approach to breast cancer pushes people to take it less seriously. As Tracy Clark-Flory of Broadsheet notes: "This bra color movement seems a similarly desperate attempt to get guys to simply give a crap about breast cancer by making it sexy and flirtatious, which I find not only embarrassing to women but insulting to men." Mary Carmichael of Newsweek agrees, noting: "They're not saying a word about cancer. This isn't awareness or education; it's titillation." Jules at Feminazery also agrees, adding that the campaign is "about using a disease that has a devastating impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people as a spurious justification for discussing saucy undies."
Though I doubt anyone really intended to do any harm by posting their bra color yesterday, perhaps feeling that any awareness is good awareness, the way I often feel pulled to buy anything pink, in the name of breast cancer organizations, perhaps it's time we all recognize that awareness alone is not enough; posting your bra color may have temporarily reminded someone that breast cancer exists, but it certainly didn't do anything to ensure that it won't exist forever.

the ironic part this is that they've also brought awareness with their criticism.

Normally, I don't buy into these things, but this one gave me a change of heart. Its fun, and it definately gets the message across.
Today, a friend of mine posted on her facebook wall, saying how she didn't know what the whole colour thing was about. To which some stupid person responded to with this:
"it's dumb b*tches posting their bra colour to raise awareness of breast cancer...don't ask them how it helps fight breast cancer in any way tho. they aren't really sure.
spoiler alert: it doesn't"
Something about that got me so pissed off, between the ignorance and the sheer stupiditiy, I had to give this guy (no idea who he is) a piece of my cyber-mind.
ME :...Pretty sure you explained the reasoning yourself.
How does it fight cancer? By raising AWARENESS of breast cancer.
Why do schools make students walk on Terry Fox day? Why do we see multitudes of people walking around with a different coloured ribbon on their chests?
spoiler alert: AWARENESS.
I don't know who you are, but ignorance is the reason why we need awareness in the first place.
I support these "dumb b*tches", not because I'm some kind of humanitarian, but because its just the morally right thing to do."
Internet tough-guy forever

I'm surprised people are actually getting bent out of shape over this. Actually maybe not too surprised. Society is so uptight and take offensive to some of the little things at times when the action shouldn't give offense. So what if girls are just doing a silly game to flirt with guys? The fact that breast cancer awareness is popping in people heads is helping in my mind since people may not have thought of it otherwise. So I guess it's working.
Is this going to motivate girls to get themselves checked more? Probably not. Is it going to make people donate more to research? Very minimal if any. So because it isn't doing that it look as offensive to some?
I think some just need to relax about this. Those that would want to donate would donate when they can, and those that wouldn't likely won't until something else motivates them to do so and they have the ability to do so. This little trend is hurting anything.

I guess my thinking is that this current "awareness" isn't targetted towards those who would actually donate cash, click on a link, educate themselves, etc.
The point is to make a few extra people a little more aware, and then when somebody comes around the office doing a bake sale, or a run for breast cancer, etc- the guys who said "hot- LOL" on people's status might be a little more likely to buy a pink cookie, or donate $5. They see the next promotion, and say "wow- we're seeing a lot of stuff about breast cancer" and feel a little more inclined to do something.
