He doesn't send flowers, he sends betamax tapes when he wants to recruit someone.

I can hate large canadian companies cant I? I use exotic woods quite often and I enjoy speaking to people who know that exotic wood is not Aspen and Oak is not harder than Maple.

This seems like a big deal until I read in the article they have almost 500 stores in Canada and these closures represent only 3% of their total retail square footage. Geez! Just trimming the fat I suppose.

I always thought it was just a paint store. They have/had real stuff too?

Douglasglen was always an experimental location to see if the small format "convenience store for hardware" could make a comeback. Looks like that is a firm no.

Yup, real stuff. Obviously not everything a big store would have or the same range of selection but almost always had what I needed. And they have free popcorn.
Maybe theyll turn it back into a video rental store...

Ditto. I avoid 130th like the plague if at all possible. All of the 'improvements' they made to 130th just made it worse. Its a nightmare.

Its basically perfect for a suburb. It was a small store that had your basics. Lightbulbs, mower oil, softener salt, ice melt, fertilizer.
If it was something basic that a homeowner needs that isnt major they had it so you could just pop down there quickly.
Albeit into the Douglasglen Mall whose entrances and exits were presumably designed by Satan himself as a final parting jab at God and all that is decent in humanity, but still, you could avoid going through an enormous big-box store looking for something minor and just pick it up locally and keep going with your project.

Well dang! Luckily I won't beat myself up too bad since I would get most things from Riverbend Hardware store which surprisingly has most things I needed in a pinch. Supporting small businesses is always a good idea but it would have been great to have another option rather than going to 130th or chinook.

The Edmonton Trail one is almost perfect. The size, small parking lot, yard with most things, store you can walk end to end in a minute...I hope they never get rid of it. They don't have everything, but it's worth the trade off.

I'm a bit surprise the old Totem stores made it through relatively unscathed. The ones on Edmonton Trail and 16th Ave by COP always seem to be in this awkward state of being too small for what you need, yet seeming occupies a lot of real estate.
Great in that they service areas of the city far from the new mega box stores - I guess that's why they survived. Although I like to think it's because of the free popcorn.

That place is remarkable. They have everything it seems.
Great little store.

The Simons Valley one is always empty, which confuses me as there are so many new homes in the area. Poorly managed?
