For the love of all that is holy, would someone PM me and explain this whole Chicken on the Way thing I've seen in so many threads? I've lived here 30 years and am clueless as to what this running gag is about...

The weather posts in this thread, other than perhaps the ones about Chinooks are totally bunk.
Pretty much everyone in Canada has the exact same "legend" of living in their city.
the whole "wait 10 minutes until the weather changes" is the most overused cliches in history. I swear, everyone from Vancouver to St John's believes that they are THE city that this silly statement is true for.
Weather changes a lot no matter where you live, especially in Canada where we get a huge range of temperatures.
I don't mean to knock your post, it is just that I've head that so many times and everyone seems to think it is unique to the city they live in.

Apparently the urban legend is that Chicken on the Way has a swingers club in the basement.
Not just a CP meme either, it has been around for some time apparently.

Pretty sure the old Super S Drugs up the way on 14th (near 17th ave) had worse things that swingers clubs in the basement. Escalators that just about ate my snowboots, among other things. Anyway I think a fun rite of passage was going to the old arcade at Esso Plaza and chucking quarter after quarter into Gauntlet. Same applies to that old billiards/arcade near the intersection of 14th/17ave. Better games there though.
Anyone Westbrook Mall survivors out there? That place still around?

- Can name and partied in all the bars on Crowchild Trail across from Mcmahon.
- Experienced Thursdays at The Den before the reno.
- Went to multiple concerts at the original Republik.
- Knew that Quincy's Downtown used to be a bar.
- Can remember being bussed all over the Olympic event sites for crowd control practice.
- Went to the Horse Races at the King Eddy.
- Planned to leave town during Stampede
- Rode the sleds at Paskapoo.
- Walked though Forest Lawn at night with no fear for your personal safety.
- Still call 5th Avenue Place Esso Plaza and had gone to movies at the theatre there.

-Have walked 6 or 7 blocks through downtown without stepping outside, using the +15's exclusively. (theres a movie about something similar, I think it was a bet about who could live the longest without visiting outside)
-visited, or watched people get married in Devonian Garden's.

rolled an empty discarded hot water heater, you found in an alley, down the hill from Parkland blvd to Bow Bottom trail which subsequently broadsided a Starcraft Van, leaving a giant hot water heater shaped dent, and smashed out the windows.
(I was 10.... it was 1984)

I'd like to add my own though. You haven't lived in Calgary until you've stared at someone like they just admitted to eating aborted fetuses, when really all they did was admit they vote Liberal.
You haven't lived in Calgary until you've cursed Trudeau, despite all the good things he did for this country, and declare that he should be posthumously hanged in Olympic Plaza for the NEP.
You haven't lived in Calgary until you've cursed the other provinces for ALL being Have Not provinces, while we make money and support their welfare and EI collecting asses.

You haven't lived in Calgary until you know that Trudeau is one of the worst humans in the history of Canada.
