I miss winter. Constant heat is not all it's cracked up to be.
Yeah I couldn't live in Florida. AZ is the best because locally it's always nice, if I want the Beach I can go to San Diego in 4 hours, if I want Pine forest, and Snow it's just a couple hours North in Flagstaff it's got it all in terms of activites.
Now if only the Republicans left, it'd be perfect!
I wonder if golf season is over. The long-term forecast doesn't look too promising.
Good thing I got a round in on Friday.

And you don't have to worry about losing your house to a hurricane. I know there are other problems everywhere, but many people leave here because they get sick of worrying about what will likely happen here.

San Jose is awsome for location, cause you are 45 minutes from Santa Cruz (beach town), 1 hr from Monterey (beach town), 1.25 hrs from Big Sur (highway along the coast)... but also 1 hr from San Francisco (restraunts/arts), 45 min from Berkeley (yacht club), 25 min from Palo Alto (restraunts/arts) there is golf everywhere, tons of climbing crags within a 2 hr radius and the mountains 3 hrs away for climbing/hiking/canyoneering, even Hollywood/Disneyland is a pretty decent 7 hr drive.
California is also a pretty Democrat-dominant state too

Sorry to continually highjack this topic, but yes, I love California. Just way to pricey for me to live and the traffic is pretty bad. I've been blown away how easy it is to get around in the Phoenix Metro considering how many people live here.
I wanted to die driving from San Diego to Oceanside..

Too bad the state is bankrupt. Things might have recovered somewhat in the more affluent areas (like the ones you mention), but if you venture into the areas of the Inland Empire, my god, we out here (in Calgary) have no comprehension of what hard times look like. The unemployment rate is running 20%+ in some of those cities.

And remember the youtube video of "Foreclosure Row" that someone posted quite a while ago?

I sometimes entertain the idea of leaving California for somewhere less crowded, less financially strapped and slower paced. Its just hard to pry myself away from the weather and my location. I'm a half hour from the beach and 90 minutes from snowboarding. If I had to live somewhere cheaper, I'd probably choose Phoenix over Florida because I can't stand humidity. I don't stress out about natural disaster like hurricanes because I've been raised in earthquake country. I've learned its pointless to worry about something that may or may not affect me.
I think people are going to start torching buildings if next Saturday's forecasted high of -4 stands.

Consider Los Gatos (or even more, Scotts Valley, Morgan Hill or Gilroy) if you want to stay in Calif, but keep the weather and a location about 5 hrs north.

I love garlic but couldn't stand to live in Gilroy!
Lived in Milpitas for 4 months back in 04.

I've only been through Gilroy a few times, on my way to San Jose, but I didn't see anything very appealing about living there. I'm not sure I've been to the other areas you've mentioned. I haven't really explored much of San Jose aside from a hotel on Park St, Logitech Ice and HP Pavillion. Whenever I'm up there it seems to be for a specific reason and there's not a lot of free time for venturing out. I do like that its much greener up there than down here. Our mountains are only green during winter and then brown up for brush fire season.
I have friends in Foster City and really like it up there, but its not really an NHL city and that's a requirement for me. I can't live anywhere that doesn't have a hockey team within a reasonable commute. Its a really nice city though.

Gilroy and Morgan Hill isn't anything special or anything, but its pretty small and its close to things that happen (i.e. location). Its about as nice as Lac La Biche.
Los Gatos and Saratoga are really nice, real small town charm, but its a bit expensive. Los Gatos and Saratoga are a couple miles into the Santa Cruz mountains, so def lots of green.
Scotts Valley is also in the Santa Cruz mountains, but not as pricey. If you want a "town" its definately a "town" ... 10 min from Santa Cruz, 35 min from San Jose. For a large part of it, think driving on dirt roads to your house, and your neighbor is a 5 min walk away. Lets just put it this way, my friends that want to get away from the busy life of SJ/SF but are wealthy live in Los Gatos or Saratoga. My friends that want to get away from the busy life of SJ/SF but are not wealthy live in Scotts Valley.
Los Gatos/Saratoga and Scotts Valley are, of coarse, within a 30 min commute of the Shark Tank.

I tend to enjoy winter and the various ways to pass it, but the goddamn cold is pretty depressing. As soon as I start getting bitchy about the cold I remember that winter in Italy (my alternative place of residence)(screw Florida or Arizona) consists of rain, rain, and more rain. F'ing rain. Rain. Rain. Rain. Rain.
At least here in western Canada we can ski on snow and skate on ice. Definitely beats rain.
F.U. Old Man Winter. You're an old co*ksucker and I hate you. Just leave and never come back. I'm serious. I hate you. Don't park your sled in my parking stall because I'll tow that piece of crap out on to the road and then piss on the door handle.
