Well, since this is a pickup truck thread, I thought I might as well ask this since I've always found it kind of amusing. For all you truck drivers out there, why do you guys think it's cool to gun the gas in a parking lot? It's like you gun it for a short distance, slam on the brakes at an intersection, and then gun it again. It's loud, annoying, and makes you look like a total ######bag. And it doesn't matter how loud the truck is, often the thing isn't even fast, so really you guys aren't impressing anyone.

I'm sure if you put these same guys in cars they would do the same. Not sure its got to do with them being in a truck.More like just being idiots..

^^^^^^

I do that to blow big plumes of black smoke out my exhaust, and annoy the hippies.

Then I park backwards, sideways, across 2 stalls so no one dings my nerf bars. In a parkade. Downtown.

There's nothing wrong with a truck that serves a functional purpose. If all you do is drive around in the city, get a car. The ones that bug me are the Hummers. Very, very few of them seem to be actually used in a way that requires anything bigger than a car.

The first few years I owned a home I wished I had a truck. There were just too many times that I needed to get something delivered (The Brick offered free delivery. Leon's was $20 cheaper but charged $20 for delivery. Imagine that). Sure I could have rented a truck every time I needed one, but more than a couple times a year and that becomes a pita.

I looked for a small, reliable pick up (ended up with a Tacoma) and it has served me well. The box is kind of banged up, a spray in liner doesn't prevent dents, but I'm pretty happy with it.

I try to be as environmentally conscious as I can, but I tend to not focus any anger towards truck drivers for many of the reasons 4x4 listed. They are incredibly handy if you require a large holding area or towing power. They aren't for me, but that doesn't mean I want everybody to get rid of them.

It's all about what's important to you. Obviously I'm directing that statement at people who don't require large vehicles (tradespeople etc.). We recently went camping with two couples that each drove their truck towing rv's behind them. The money they spent on gas was unreal! Personally I couldn't find the trade off acceptable, but to them it's worth spending several hundred dollars on gas to have the trucks. Different strokes.

I'd be happy if pickup drivers would get their headlights aimed properly. Or do the truck nuts lift the front end?

I'd be happy if they started building pickup trucks with signal lights.

In all seriousness I live in a townhome and drive a full size V6. As a city dweller pretty much anything you need to do on a regular basis, including camping, skiing on weekends in the winter, golfing in the summer, hockey in the winter, etc. can be achieved in my car. I can take 4 people comfortably with skis and equipment.

My roomate on the other hand just bought a brand new truck (He works downtown in an office-type job) just for the sake of having a truck. Mind you he is a full-blown urban redneck.

Pickup trucks are like the Affliction t-shirt of the automobile world.

1. I call the moving company.
2. There is this thing called the Inernet. I have had a BBQ, and Air Conditioner both with free delievery from Costco and Home Depot.
3. So long as they drive like someone who is courteous to other drivers on the road, I have no problem with them and their trucks.
4. Todays players are not my heroes. They happen to be employed by the team that I cheer for.
5. The same reason we see 4X4 duallys parked every day in downtown parking lots. Oh wait, those guys have part time jobs that cause their trucks to get dirty
6. Comparing your sensibilities to an old persons - come on, there has to be a better excuse for you to drive a truck.
7. If you did that you would be in the minority of truck owners. Or I would call 311 and get their lazy union a$$es out to clear it.
8. Again, so long as you dont drive like a "pickup owner" then we are fine with it.
9. I did. I prefer to pay $25 to fill up my tank and go just as far as I did when I paid $70
10. No

I think I can speak for most (other than the enviro whackos out there). So long as you dont drive like a "pickup owner" then we are fine with you driving your pickup. If you have the free money to spend 50% more on a truck than we do on a car and can afford the gas then more power to you.

But dont expect sympathy when you park downtown in spots that wernt designed for a truck. Or when you double park in a parking lot because your truck wont fit into 1 spot.

When I lived in a smaller town/farm I loved driving a tuck. I live in Calgary know so my prefrances have changed.

City (non biz use) truck drivers remind me of the poster who said the people from sask are used to being on a farm with wide open spaces as a reasoning why he wouldnt want to live in a condo or into a more dense community.

A surprising lack of hate in here for SUV's, considering they're less functional than pick-ups but probably equally bad on gas.

I used to hate on people with SUV's, but then I got one.

I think its because it's the modern day station wagon. A little tough to pack the kids in the back of the F150.

You could change out truck and insert 4 cyclinder rice "rocket" in this statement and it would be 100 times more accurate. Honestly I dont really see trucks doing this nearly as much as guys driving noisey lawnmowers with 90 hp.

Put me in the redneck pickup crowd...

P.S. The truck even has a winch on the front of it now (pic is pre-winch installation)

I thought ######bag was more accurately descriptive of the chochy, popped collar type of guy. Isn't redneck derogatory enough?

11. Who you gonna call when someone is parked in your parking stall after a long day of work and you want to tow it out into the street?
