Did you read through the entire thread? I ask because I think I at least made an attempt to explain this earlier. You might not actually be looking for information here, but I wonder where we all get our ideas that equal must mean treated exactly the same way in everything. The two aren't the same thing.

The Qu'ran says in more than one place that men and women are to be treated equally; as different parts that complement each other. If people choose to ignore that, in my mind, that would be a corrpution of the religion rather than following it.

Not to mention that in the West/Christian world we have our own mores and ideas about how women should dress and yet no one gets upset about them.

In the case of hijab, all the Qu'ran says is the both men and women should be modest, and for some (not all) women, covering up to varying degrees is an expression of that modesty.

Ill give you 2 scenrios here.

#1) You've girl wearing a skirt and a somewhat revealing top.

#2) You've got a muslim girl, wearing a hijab and have herself covered.

Now which one would you desire to have? Society hasn't come far enough for you to tell me that you will ignore the girl whose revealing and look at both of them the same way. Even forget the girl with the hijab and compare 2 girls, one revealing and one isn't. The sexual desire still resides inside us. Who are you going to respect more? This can go back to the thread another user had not long ago, "girl in a mini skirt coming for an interview" what would you call her?

This goes well beyond just that, for example if you're married, looking at someone who is sexually inviting, will and has led to problems, affairs, marriages ending. Now if the women was covering herself and wasn't sexually inviting could problems like these be prevented? imo it will help.

I can go on and on, simple answer is respect and shame. By covering herself the women can and does avoid many problems.
Yet the men can dress any way they like? So women can look on men as sexually inviting but men cant do the same thing? Or are you suggesting that women dont think the same way as men? Isnt it just a little sexist for men to demand women dress in a certain way without upholding the same limits for themselves? Patriarchal society at its best?
Or maybe its just that society who looks at women as sexual objeects? LOL
There was a study I read not so long ago that said the vast majority of internet porn surfers came from Islamic countries....geez I wonder why?

This is what I'm talking about, misrepresentation of the nature of rape. It is a hateful act that is rooted in sex. Lust is a common trigger for rape, it can also be the catalyst that creates the hate.

There is no clearly defined line where the lust ends and the hate begins, to be dealt with, one must consider them to be the same.

(my mom is an emergency room nurse, she passed on alot of rape stories and I've heard alot more than I would like)

This is the kind of empty-headed, PC before reality nonsense I referred too. Why should women worry, I mean, it's only a very real risk of being killed and raped, no biggy, right?

If I was 100 lb drunk girl in an unknown neighborhood at night. You can be goddamned sure I would be keeping my eyes peeled with a finger on the mace can. I'd love to pretend that we live in a nicer world than we do, but we don't, 'equality' doesn't have a place in the rape conversation.

yeah and don't forget North America happily supplies them with all the content. Who cares what side of the ocean it is, their actions aren't religious but ignoring their beliefs thinking they can do what they want because they are of a particular gender. We have just as many sick pieces of crap on this side of the world who aren't even remotely religious and happily do the same things.

Ahh, nm. The formatting is all screwy in your original post. I thought for a second that a study found that more people searched for porn in Elmhurst, IL than in all of Ireland. That would have been impressive.

I'm not sure exactly what they are measuring. Canada is 8th in searching for the word "porn" and the US isn't even in the list. Am I to believe that there are more Canadian searches for porn than American?

The American search is in parallel to the world search. (eg Elmhurst, IL seems to be the porn capital of the USA.)

Searching for the term "sex" is bad? for all you know it could be for education purposes. Not to mention a survey like this would have to be done on per capita basis, as previously mentioned the population are quite high in India/Pakistan. Look at the population in those countries, you think they're looking up "sex"? its quite obvious they are rather doing it instead.

That right there holds a lot of the truth unfortunately.

What an average man going to show thats going to turn on the women? his beer gut? hairy legs?

When you hear sex sells, which gender is being used to sell it? like I said before imo women still are primarily looked as sexual objects.

I was going to post an image of the cover of a harlequin romance novel, but couldn't even bring myself to search. Just picture in your minds eye fabio on the cover of a book without a shirt, you'll get the idea.

Anyway, it's been about 3 hours since I last looked at the old Hottie Draft threads, so, um, brb.

It would be interesting to live long enough to see if things change at all. You "average men" need to step it up! Since a woman is more likely to be somewhat financially depemdent on a man than vice-versa they have to be more tolerant of physical unattractiveness. The "cougar" phenomenon is interesting because an older woman, who apparently doesn't need a man to support her, goes after younger , supposedly more attractive men.
