I've never driven drunk. My best friend's sister was killed at age 16 by a drunk driver. It was the saddest thing I'd ever seen a family go through. I was 15 at the time so it was fresh in my head when I got my drivers license. To this day, when my best friend and I go through old photo albums, I tear up when we get to the page of her and her sister standing in front of their fireplace in matching jammies. When you turn the page, there is no more Jenny. Its a devastating loss.
I did my share of partying in college, we went to the beach and got drunk pretty much every night during the summer. But we always took turns driving and the driver was not allowed to drink anything. Now, except on very rare occasions, I don't drink anyway so its not a problem. I've had maybe 4 drinks in the past 10 years has been at MGM during a hockey weekend and I knew all I had to do is walk to my room.

Never had a drop of alcohol in my life. Still manage to hit things when driving.
Edit: I was always designated driver back in university. I don't know if they do this in Calgary, but in Halifax the DD always drinks free (pop of course). So while my friends were blowing $30, I had cheap nights out....

As I had it explained to me, a cop can give you "impaired driving" for basically anything if he really wants to. Whether it's suspicion of doing drugs, being way too tired, or suspicion of alcohal. We could get clarification, if only there was a member of Calgary's finest who's been viewing this thread for the last 10 minutes.

Yeah, I know. I meant a loose definition of DD. If I was DDing for my friends I have no problems smoking a joint and driving there drunk asses around and consider myself "sober".
Please don't anyone rip on being high and driving. I really don't want to get into that discussion right now. And FTR as far as MY body and high are concerned, me being high is not unsafe or impaired.

I don't have any official stats or anything to back this up, but I think Calgary is a pretty bad spot for drinking and driving. People are heavily reliant on cars as their primary means of transportation (as opposed to cabs or public transport), most people live in suburbs that are far away from where they party, cab rides would be expensive, its cold outside for a large part of the year. Not an excuse at all, but it just seems like a recipe for an increased number of drunk driver's on the road. I think many times people drive when they should'nt just because its more convenient to "risk it".

My cousin was killed when he was 19 by a drunk driver. Ever since then there has been a huge rift in the family.
So I learned at a young age what the consequences were. Never have, never will drive drunk. In fact, I avoid drinking except in certain social situations.

Never drunk, but after 2 drinks max (usually over a 2 hr period) but 95% of the time it's only 1 drink during supper.
So I voted no, as I don't see 2 drinks as "drunk". I think the poll needs a definition.

Well, if during one check stop, eg. 3 out of 1000 people are found to be drunk, they can make the assumption that 0.003% of people drive drunk (per time of check stop).
If they compare that number to all the drunk drivers caught in, say a month, they would find that nowhere near 0.003% of the city's 1 million person population was caught, so they can only assume that at any given time, 3000 people are driving drunk, they could assume that 1:1000 people are not being caught.
Keep in mind that many assumptions were made...

I agree. I think a lot of people are abstaining from voting or about 10 people lied and voted no because they thought it was a public poll.
I'm pretty sure counting responses in this thread it is about 20-6 in favour of driving drunk. Well not in favour of driving drunk, but that voted yes that they did drive drunk.

In fairness the question is worded kind of vague. I mean if there was a third option that read, "I think I was borderline, but still okay" that would be winning. But feel free to continue to judge, having never had a sip of alcohol.

I think the wording may be stopping a few peopel from voting yes as well. The poll asks if you have ever driven drunk or thought you may have been drunk. I think if it was changed to something along the lines of "Have you ever driven drunk, or had some drinks and drove when you felt you may have been at least slightly impaired (only worder a lot better), then there would be more "yes" votes.
