Which is basically what I'm doing.

Counting calories, or even worse, counting macronutrients is a painful, stressful and pointless process as far as I'm concerned.

When I have steak, I eat 4 pieces. When I have burgers, I eat one with a bun, and 4 without a bun.

Do you do any exercises other then deadlifts?

But that sort of diet will catch up to you once you leave your teens.

Is there a better time of day to work out? I can get up early or go after work. Either around 7am or wait till around 5pm. What is better? Also... should I eat before or after working out? Or both?

Also, is it a good call to drink meal replacement shakes? Can someone recommend one?

The way I'd like to lose is dramatically at first and then maintain and tone later.

I stopped drinking alcohol last summer for 10 weeks. Lost 20lbs. I gained about 10lbs of that back, but it was muscle. Been consistent at around 170 or so since then.

Did you stop drinking booze all together or just beer?

You have all inspired me. From now on, I will eat healthy and exercise for an hour, 4 times per week.

Just let me eat this piece of double chocolate truffle cake first....

Actually yeah, I just came back to correct that. The first 3 weeks or so were really tough, then it was a breeze. I had my first drink on the first game of the season last year.

I think I'll do it again this year. I felt so good when I was doing it.

Wrong. Insulin converts blood glucose that is not instantly absorbed into the cells of the body into glycogen which is how the body temporarily stores glucose so it can be "at the ready" to be used should blood glucose levels drop. Normally, glycogen reserves last around 4 hours before converting itself back to glucose for cell absorbtion. Glycogen stored in the liver can supply the body with glucose for 8-12 hours after the initial digestion of the food from which it was derived.

Azure................where do you find an easy-to-read list of foods with a high GI index??

Also...............if I am getting up first thing (no breakfast before) in the morning to jog 6km's, what kind of breakfast is best after that?

Also.....when is the proper time to take protein shake? Before or after exercise? Before bed or for breakfast??

Thanks...

I think the best time is a little bit during your cardio, and the rest afterwards.

Also, it has already been mentioned, but you should always eat not long after you wake up because your body has been fasting while you have been asleep.

Oh of course.

My main routine is Starr's 5x5 program. A bit modified though.

Squats, Deads, Presses, Pulls.

I need to get some cleans in there though. Nothing like some squat cleans to make you feel like killing yourself.

See this is impossible, I cannot fathom what people have against waking up bleary eyed, exhausted and with a perpetual headache....if I wake up any other way I have to seek medical attention immediately....

My blood alcohol level is a finicky thing.....its a constantly moving target....

Do what works for you.

I workout at different times during the day. The benefit of running your own business.

You need to have something before working out, and if you're actually doing some serious exercising, you need something post-workout.

I drink chocolate milk.

And what happens when you have excess glucose from eating too many high carb foods?

This is all new to me, some I'm still learning about the details.

Just put in the food you're eating.

Well, your body is already depleted from processing all that food during the night, so you need both carbs and protein in the morning, ESPECIALLY after running 6km.

Just make sure the carbs are 'complex'.....and you get protein(eggs, bacon). I also drink lots of milk in the morning.

Well, you need something after working out, but your breakfast should cover that.

I drink my protein shake in the afternoon. Takes me a few hours to finish it. I don't think there is a 'best' time. Protein shakes just give you more 'protein.' If you can get enough protein from food, you don't even need it.
