Liverpool need to learn how to defend set pieces. Another poor managerial display, if not for the Sean Davis red card it would surely have been a third loss in four league matches. This Greek lad doesn't cut the mustard for me. Kuyt was class as was Torres and Gerrard.
All in all, three points away from home can't be viewed as a bad result, but Rafa really really worries me.

The distribution through the midfield is what concerns me, where is this Aquilani character? Having only Masch and Lucas as midfield playmakers could spell trouble.

Aquilani is injured, this was common knowledge when Liverpool signed him. He's due back in early October.

Yeah I know, I just didnt know when he was going to be ready.
That game, was not impressive really, the defending was very poor and much of the blame for that has to be with Carragher, unusually poor game from him and the debut of Krygiakos, but when Liverpool have the ball and are attacking they look deadly.
I was not unimpressed with Kyrgiakos, he needs some time to adapt obviously, but he was the only affordable alternative to playing Ayala, he has room for improvement, but once Aggrer and Skrtel get back we'll be in much better shape at CB.
Glen Johnson, now thats a signing, hopefully the Aquilani purchase turns out to be just as brilliant!
That was a classic game from Torres! The guy played with heart, took his knocks and went about doing his job, thats the Torres we all know and love.
People have to relax a little bit, when he went down in the box it was clearly due to the tackle and subsequently losing his balance, he didnt make a production of it or look at the ref, there was no appeal for a penalty or anything, the Bolton defenders made more of it than anyone on Liverpool, he wasnt diving or angling for a penalty or anything, he just got tackled.

Reina speaks, a part that I particularly like:
Quote:
He said: "People say we have lost as many games this season as we did in the whole of last season. But last season our biggest problem was drawing games.
"Those draws meant that we could have drawn the two games that we lost, gone unbeaten in the league all season, but still not won it.
"I would rather have lost six of those 11 games and won the other five. Then we would have finished level on points with Manchester United and maybe have won it on goal difference.
"People can point to defeats, but I feel it's draws that make it more difficult."

Locke, you should read the whole article. He totally writes off any chance of Liverpool challenging for the title this season. He makes the exact same points that I've been making in this very thread - poor management and very poor ownership is ruining the club.
Don't get carried away. It was only Burnley. Granted they've been Manchester United and Everton but Chelsea put a few past them two weeks ago, so nothing to get excited about. These are the teams we should be stuffing 4-0.

Wow, Yossi's third goal was kind of surreal, everyone stops assuming hes offside, he shrugs his shoulders and slots it away, that defender keeping him on must have felt like an idiot.

I think hes in for a big year that Yossi. The trouble with stuffing the minnows is that most of them do what Stoke did last season and play Liverpool with 10 men behind the ball and a "hope and pray" striker going for the 0-0 draw and taking their occasional chance and trying to profit from free kicks.
Burnley tried it, but made a defensive error and then the game was cracked wide open and the Reds tore them apart, but its easier said than done.

Can we all agree that Yossi deserves to play every game from now on? I'm not entirely kidding when I say I think he's as important to the team as Gerrard and Torres. Will the manager agree though?
Good win. The kind of team they drew against last time around.

The back 4 werent very convincing today, but really not all that bad, a few mistakes from Carra and Skrtel, a doubly controversial penalty for the West Ham goals, really that could have just as easily been 3-0 as 4-2 for the Reds, overall the midfield is improving.
I must admit at one point I was hoping Rafa would have yanked Carra and replaced him with Kyrgiakos but to his credit Carra did rebound and played a very solid second half, Skrtel is a beast though, hes gotta watch those tackles, hes trying to kill people out there.
I appreciate the aggression but you dont want him suspended.
Overall not a great performance from the back 4, but that'll get fixed up right quick I expect, its the midfield that I want to see major improvement and they were much better this game. I do want to see this Aquilani character at some point though, considering the major summer signing hasnt even dressed yet things are looking okay. Very young season yet.
Torres, is he the best striker in the world? I dont know, but hes certainly in the conversation! He was in vintage form today, strong, fast, crafty and causing all kinds of hell in the West Ham half.

I didn't see the game but a win's a win. (5th on the bounce). West Ham, away, has been a tricky fixture for Liverpool in the past, excepting last season, so as a true Liverpool fan I'm happy with the three points.
Thanks for your input, Locke. Always appreciated.

Its going to be tough for Liverpool to win the CL or Premier League this year consider they didnt do any upgrade at all, not to mention letting Xabi go....I guess they should just focus on the Carling Cup and the FA Cup.

'Tough' does not equate to impossible. They have a better chance than most, lets not forget they were the best team in the EPL last season dispatching Man U and Chelsea fairly easily, the grind simply overtook them.
Maybe they should blow off the Carling and FA cups and concentrate on the CL and the League.
Either way, in till the end!

Sometimes being the best team on any given night doesnt make you the best team over 38 games. Man U couldnt manage to beat Liverpool last season, even without Torres and Gerrard, and when they were in the lineup they gave Manchester their worst thumping at home in over a decade.
