My wife thinks you need a card for everything. I wouldn't doubt it if our card budget was $200/year or more. we can't go anywhere without a card or gift.
She went to Japan this year and has not stopped talking about how there is pretty much a gift given for everything you do and she can't stop talking about how respectful it is. It drives me nucking futs!

i usually make my cards on loose leaf paper and with blue black and red ball point pens. i usually think of something creative to draw and say, and in reality i am neither creative nor can I draw, so the outcome is usually hilarious. I have used this technique many times and has become my calling card, and people enjoy it. It takes a bit of time, but it's better than buying a card I find.

I like to buy the cowboy-themed cards you can see at Lammle's and send them out. I've been doing that for about 10-12 years now, generally to about 40 to 50 people. I probably won't be doing it this year, purely out of laziness.

My objection to cards is the idea that people work so hard to find the perfect sentiment on a greeting card, but it's never a unique sentiment; I like getting a card with a hand-written note, but hate getting some lame poem or joke. I like the idea of written correspondence, and I prefer the approach that both Worth and The Goon have: both have found a way of having a signature form of correspondence that they can customize for whatever sentiment they need. It's more thoughtful, cheaper, and actually has more of a connection to the tradition of correspondence than any of the hallmark cards have.

I hate greeting cards; those I throw away. Postcards though are awesome and I keep.

When I was younger I was a bit of a cartoonist and I used to make all the cards I gave for birthdays, christmas etc... People seemed to like that and actually kept them for the most part

I normally mail cards to people who are out of province... but cards are good as surprises/pick-me-ups to people when the situation calls for it.

Cards aren't useless. How else do you play gin rummy.

I like giving and receiving blank cards where you can write a personel message.
