If it's time in the mountains, how much time do you spend there?
As for closer, how much closer are you actually?

I only ask because I've gone through this debate in my head before. I love the mountains, alot. I don't care much for a view of the mountains from my house but I spend a lot of time there. I make that drive on HWY 1 at least once a week, every week. However, I spend 5 days a week downtown...
I guess it depends on personal preference, but for me the proximity and the view was the deal closer. Then again, the proximity is only what, 15 mins shorter than Calgary depending on where you live, so it's really no big deal.

We moved back to Alberta from BC in 2006. We initially moved into the NW (Royal Oak) while we decided where to live. We wanted to be close the the airport, cause thats where I work. We looked at the Coventry/Country Hills areas, but for a similar place the prices were 15% higher in Calgary compared to Airdrie. The drive into work for me is super easy, takes 20 minutes (alot of Airdrionians work at the airport). We really like it up there. The only reason we come into Calgary is to go to the mall and restaurants. Once the Balzac mall is open, we shouldn't need to go to the malls in Calgary.

Mostly everything is cheaper in Airdrie. Gas is usually around 3 cents/L cheaper, property taxes are less etc.

The only time I wish I lived in Calgary is when I have to drive to the SW. My sister lives in Aspen Hills and it takes 45 minutes no matter which way you go. Thats a pain in the ass.

I think there are pro's and con's to living everywhere, but I don't regret moving up there at all.

Possibly...but I think that is unlikely...at worst there would likely be fair compensation for the houses on the land. The Federal Government is a major player in this as well.

This thread, in some cases, has gotten away from the OP's intention of discussing the pros and cons of living in Airdrie.

If you would like to discuss the pros and cons of living in some of Calgary's other bedroom communities, I have started this thread...
