I don't have a problem with him wanting a jet. But when you talk like a bigshot on the net, you can expect people to ask a few questions. I'm simply curious about how he plans on attaining this goal, which is far more relevant than the goal itself. The plan to get from A to B will let us know of it's ######ed or not - then it will be reasonble to encourage (or discourage) Phanutier.
Until we have more answers on how an unemployed low-level soccer player plans to buy a jet, I think I'll refrain from patting him on the back too hard.

Quick Google search on buying a jet gave me this:
And let's keep in mind you have no track record of earning any substantial money given you've been in school for the past 16 - 18 years, and you are currently unemployed. Why are we humouring this thread? It's ridonculous.

Let's keep in mind that YOU have no personal knowladge of his financial history.
What's funny is YOU slagging someone for having dreams. Wether it's attainable or not i give credit to Phanuthier for setting goals.

The hardest part for a lot of recent graduates is not knowing where (or how) to start.
All I can say is this - ACT on your instincts, TAKE the chances, and things will fall into place.
You'd be surprised at how many intelligent and bright people could have done so much better in this world if they just decided to 'take the plunge.'
If all that's holding you back is fear of the unknown, then close your eyes and jump. It may be the most brilliant life and/or career move you'll ever make.

Will some sane people grounded in reality please help me explain to the people on this board that live in lala land that unemployed soccer players can't actually buy jets?
Dion, maybe if you read my post out loud and sound out all the big words you'll grasp what I was saying enough to throw together a coherent post of your own. I was asking him how he planned to buy a jet. If his plan includes somebody giving him $50 million, then he has a very good plan. If he thinks he can earn enough after-tax dollars in ten years (after he finds a job, mind you) to buy a private jet, then I think it would be useful and helpful for him to learn that this is a ridiculous dream.
So P, again, what is your plan to get you from jetless to jetful?

So for example do you think Jim Balsillie had it all planned out exactly how to invent the Blackberry, manufacture, and market it when he graduated University as an accountant? Or did he maybe just have the goal of becoming extraordinarily wealthy and after working for awhile the idea came to him, or worked with someone else who had a good idea and decided how to make it big to fulfill that other goal? The one thing Balsillie knew was that he wanted a short stint in accounting to help him lead to something else bigger and better.

Be honest, am I arguing with six year olds? You guys are dillusional. I'll applaud him when he buys his jet and affords the maintenance. This is insane.

Not insults, observations. I truly believe in all objectivity and with no emotion whatsoever that on this issue you are dillusional. I'm sorry if you take that as an insult, but it does come from a place of sincerity within me.
Anyway, the meat of my post was not that, so no, I can offer more. I said I would applaud him when he bought his jet, but not before.

So you think I'm six years old? This coming from a someone who thinks we should just exterminate all bears. Be honest what am I arguing with?
I may not think it's a realistic or attainable goal for him to own a jet one day. But it's better to set high standards and try to work towards them and not succeed rather than set something really low that you can achieve very easily and have no idea what you want to do afterwards.

Well, this 4th page took an interesting turn, so I gues I should answer. Right now, no I don't have money to buy a jet and my parents arn't bizzilionairs. I'm come from a pretty typical middle class family, and I drive a 9 year old Camry (not a snazzy sports car). So yes, its sort of a goal. Some set goals they that are reasonable and they can fully attain (i.e. get a job, run a marathon, get a car) and some have some wild dreams.
I think Dion might be the only guy here who really has the book on my history, my financial history and my plan to have a jet in the next decade so I guess thats why he doesn't think this is unrealistic. I'm reaching for the stars here, but I guess I aim high on many things, some of which I probably won't be able to attain. But, I do have a plan for this.

The threads you've created about banning dogs and bears clearly show that you are the dillusional one. I find it hard to take anything you say seriously.

I too have lofty goals. They may not be as sexy as a private jet, but they are for the betterment of mankind, which is why I think they deserve a little more respect than they get around here.

And I'm sure that is such an obvious exception to my proposal that I would have allowed for it. Let me check.

A guy who is serious about devising a game plan for banning all dogs in Calgary shouldn't be giving lectures on "most outrageous" topics.

Dare to dream.
Although I'm with you on one thing. Better find a job before and figure out how to keep it before going all ethereal.

Dion - lets leave the dog and bear crazy stuff in history.
There were some real good replies on the 3rd page that have me thinking and to mull over
