There is still a reason why the greatest golfer right now did not even shoot under 72 in all 4 rounds. It is tough to expect anyone to do this as there are so many different variables. Look at the Top ten in this tournament and you will see why most of them did not shoot well.
All I am saying is golf is a fickle game and the slightest thing can be Tiger woods eagle on the 12th hole and the roar of the crowd. Byrd's game dropped off immediately after that eagle on 12. Let alone a shot you make or don't and how that can impact your game for the rest of the day. The guys at the top did drop back some strokes, but Tiger still had to shoot a 66 (shot a 65) to win that tournament. If Tiger would have shot a 67 or 68 (which still would have been a great round) he would have been in a playoff that he could have lost or lost generally. Furyk played like Furyk always does.
I am not surprised by the results at that tournament, but if Tiger didn't shoot what he did he would not have won that tournament.
Its a choke when you have played amongst the best all tournament long. I don't think that the top ten players in the tournament should expect or be expected to play the same as the other guys out there. If you are at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday you should play better than 90% of the other guys in the tournament, whether the course is tough or not.
It is choking to shoot 72 because shooting 69 which shouldn't have been tough for the guys who were playing there best all weekend long, would have put you in contention to win the tournament.
You say they choke. I say Tiger just plays that much better. I don't think we'll be able to come to an agreement since we seem to have fundamentally different views on what constitutes a "choke" for PGA players. I think a score approaching 75 - 80 is a choke, doesn't matter if you shot 65 the day before or even par.
To expect even the best golfers to shoot somewhere between 67 - 69 every single day of a tournament is a pretty impossible standard of consistency, IMO. There are so many variables over an 18-hole round, to think an acceptable "non-choke" margin of error is 2-3 shots for every round (and that all rounds should be below par) just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

All those factors were there Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well. Even Tiger went over par on Friday.
Anthony Kim and Tiger Woods in the final pairing on Sunday at AT&T National. Should be interesting to see if Kim can push back when Tiger makes his run. Anthony's supposed to be the next big thing!

I think that the media helps keep the up and comers at bay. They help propagate the Tiger mythology, and by the time the guys get to play in the final round against Tiger, they are so psyched out by being asked what it is like to go up against Tiger, to be the next best thing.
He is getting smarter and smarter on the golf course with his club and shot selection its ridiculous.

And all of that while he's going through a major injury, coming back from his longest layoff from golf since he was a newborn, and adjusting to becoming a father - twice.
I have to agree with HotHotHeat, I am not looking forward to Tiger not being on the Tour. Considering the condition he keeps himself in, he may be able to compete into his fifties, a long time from now. I have heard him say that when he stops believing that he can win, he'll stop playing... but Palmer and Nicklaus said that too, and well, I guess they thought they could still win into their sixties and seventies, lol. Either way, I can't picture Tiger freaking Woods competing on the Champions tour.
I am not worthy. *Bows down* And what was with Jim Brown hating on him last month?
Brown thinks every black star should be up on a podium talking about civil rights. He dislikes Jordan and Woods for never saying anything and just going about their business.
