This is good. It means that Jim will be able to mentor the younger players, and when they come up and he gets another kick at being an NHL coach with the Flames, he'll already have players at his disposal that buy into his way of doing things (which was what was lacking when he was Flames head coach).

Management is obviously thinking about the long (long) game here.

Two thumbs up!

I am glad Playfair is coaching the Heat. I like the guy, although I felt his time was up in Calgry, so this is the next best thing. He should be good for the team.

Anyone else notice on Sportsnet pacific last night, they had Playfair's picture and beside it was the flaming A. Strange that a national broadcast would put a random logo up without any inside knowledge, as it hasn't been introduced yet.

Sportsnet technicians never screw up, so it must be true!

Corksuckers were doing so well...

LOL! Is that how you look at it?

Personally, I think it's a damn shame that a great hockey market like the Fraser Valley will never reach it's full potential with its new AHL team due to its affiliation with the Flames. There's enough people in Abbotsford that the team won't have troubles surviving, but there's zero chance of there being a large contingent of support for the Heat throughout the entire region. If they were affiliated with almost any other team I think people from all over the Fraser Valley would be going to the games.

It will definitely be interesting when the Moose come to town. At the very least, I expect 50-60% of the fans at the arena to be cheering for Manitoba.

And if they start winning, what then?

Then it's not a great hockey market...

The excitement is palpable as Flames Fever grips the entire Fraser Valley. The Abbotsford subsidiary of hockey's most important franchise will soon take to the ice.

Silly bias as in being a Canucks fan? LOL, too funny Mel. Why would Bob Smith from Maple Ridge drive 40 minutes to watch an AHL affiliate of a team he hates when there are plenty of other options(including the Giants and Bruins) for a cheaper price? There's enough civic pride in Abbotsford to make it work, but I doubt the rest of the Fraser Valley will catch on.

It's hard to figure you out Mel. You have either devoted your time on this board to getting a rise out of Canucks fans(which I think is the case), or your hate for the Canucks has clouded your sense of rationality on anything to do with the Canucks or the province of BC. You seem like a smart guy, so I think either way it's a shame.
