If a guy can't stop himself from "going for a bite" (whether that is saying something crude, grabbing a handful or just leering) he has a problem.

I guess I'm a pig, if there were 2 equally qualified candidates I would probably hire the one with the short skirt. Actually, I would hire the better looking one, but if they were both good looking and performed similar in an interview, I would hire the one with the short skirt.

I think having a few hotties around the office improves the culture, and keeps things interesting... you don't want too many though.

Not the fact that the skirt was short, but rather that it was denim is what would bother me. If it's short as in, not office appropriate short, well that makes me shake my head and causes the ladies in the office to gossip before she even starts. If it's borderline office appropriate, whatever. But the fact that it's a denim skirt... that's where it falls apart. Too casual.

Sounds like you have good tiebreaker rules.

What Firefly said. I noted the denim thing too and questioned that....guess it depends on what the company does.

I guess it depends on what your definition of slutty is and what is typical attire for your area and for the position. I would think the position would be filled by someone attractive...and by what you say many of those being interviewed looked similar so it's probably what's expected to fit the profile of the job. I believe you're also in Florida right? So shorter skirts may be de rigueur.

I think it could just as easily backfire. One company I was at the owner was....I'll just say a big hater of the objectification of women so short skirt would not be hired. He would also figure the guys in the company would not do any work and just hit on her so that would be another strike.

I'm talking about something much more subtle than that. I am talking more about the "halo effect" of an attractive person, and that we assume that they are more trustworthy and friendly etc. than other people. Its not human nature to send someone whom you are attracted to out the door, regardless of being in an office or not.

Why do you think women get so hot and bothered over some celebrities?

IMO someone who thinks that a short denim skirt is appropriate interview attire will never be qualified for a job in my office, regardless of any other qualities displayed. Discretion is by far the most important quality I want in any employee, this person obviously lacks that.

If she's the most qualified you hire her.

If she is not, you hire someone else.... and ask her to wear a short skirt to work instead.

Totally agree. Having a better looking workplace always seems to boost spirits. As does having people who get along. That being said too many good looking ladies and the environment can turn to crap because that becomes the focus of all the male employees.

I once interviewed a girl for a developer position that came to the interview in a very skimpy blouse and skirt. The skirt was so short you could see her panties, and the blouse was unbuttoned so low you could see most of her bra. Great face too.

No, we didn't give her the job.

Sitting down? Or standing up? If standing up, then wow.

Unless you are applying for a job at an escort service, a waitress in a trashy bar (see: Cowboys), or as jammies' live-in maid, the skirt should be at least knee-length and never ever denim. I wouldn't hire someone who showed up looking like that no matter how hot she was - you're just ASKING for dissension amongst the wimmenfolk with an attention ho like that.

This reminds me of a story from about a decade back - the big boss posted a new dress code, which included no jeans but you could wear shorts. So, being a smartass, I wore shorts (khaki, not gym shorts) the very next day, and was pulled aside within the hour where it was "explained" to me that the shorts were supposed to be for women only.

Naturally I bitched and moaned and asked why this wasn't outlined in the policy and how this was sexual discrimination; of course that was more or less glossed over and I was told that if I pushed it the policy would just be revised so that nobody could wear shorts, man or woman. Not being a complete jerk, I dressed normally thereafter, especially as I was mostly interested in showing up the hypocrisy of putting out a dress code to deal with a couple of, shall we say, "unconventional" dressers instead of manning up and just talking to the individuals concerned.

To be honest, what are you interviewing for? If it's a professional position, then absolutely not, because slutty dress is not professional. It also depends on the company.

Personally, I wouldn't like it, but that doesn't mean there aren't some dudes/pervs out there who would prefer it.

Wow.
