I've got a great hiding place for my insurance. Most vehicles nowadays have two sun flaps. I use one of those clamp style paperclips and I stick my insurance on the top of the upper flap and clamp it on there. I just don't see theives flipping down the first sun visor, moving it over to the side and then flipping down the second one to see if there's something hidden in there.

A few years back my brother had to be taken to the emergency room in the middle of the night for some sort of ailment. My parents parked the car in front of the hospital, and when they got out a few hours later the car was gone. We called the police, and waited. A few days later, the police called saying the car had been found...about 5 blocks away from the hospital. Nothing was broken, and everything was in place. They didnt even adjust the drivers seat, which considering it belonged to my pint-sized mom, led us to believe it was either taken by a midget, or they didn't even try to drive it. Since they key had a microchip in it and wouldnt work hot-wired, seems like someone tried to tow it away, and for some reason gave up....

Seemed like a bit of a low blow to take a car from a hospital parking lot though. Reminds me of the guy on the bus punching the blind woman.

My stupid car theft story: I used to work at the Coop gas bar. One day I was working the till and a guy that had just finished paying for his gas comes back inside and asks the gas jockeys where his car was (he assumed that one of them had moved it out of the way to make room for other people wanting gas). They all just sort of looked at eachother and denied ever entering the vehicle. So dude starts giving me crap for allowing someone to steal his car while he was inside paying.
Yeah. Some passerby had the balls to jump into a car at a gas station and drive off. And the idiot that left the keys in it tried to pin it on the guy working the till. I had a really hard time not laughing at him.

I carry my insurance and registration in my wallet, I never leave it in my car. And I lock my glove box. If you want to break into my car, you might get some change and a snow brush, that's it. Never had an issue, but damnit I'd love to catch someone in the act.

Had my car broken into 3 years ago too, also becuase I left the doors unlocked, like you did(I fell into the "nothing bad ever happens here" mindset of the bubble that is St. Albert, like so many of us do). If the cops find out you left the doors unlocked, you won't get a single thing re-imbursed.

This is why you don't leave anything of value in the car.

Yup, I learnt that the hard way. I seriously could've lived in my car with the amount of junk I had in there at the time of the break-in. I'm much more careful now.
