TigerDirect has the WD box for $119. That's incredible value.

Has anyone got the new one? Has ethernet capabilities, can watch Youtube videos on this thing. I think Memory Express ($129) is out of stock but Best Buy ($169) in Deerfoot Meadows has a few.

Anyone know where you can grab one of these at a good price now?

I saw it Staples for $119 the other day... keep in mind a) It only works with WD External HDs, acording to the punk kid that helped me, b) WD Ex HD's sold seperately.

Thought about it, but it was going to cost me closer to $300 with the added cost of the Ext HD. Seems like an awesome unit tho.

The punk kid is incorrect. I'm pretty sure these work with any USB drive (and probably external USB HDs?).

Thanks for the link though, that's the cheapest I've seen it lately!

He is lying. I have one of these and it has handled 4 different drives I have used, and 2 USB key/drives.

They just released the WDTV Live, which has a built in network port, and it also will play any NTFS, FAT32 and HFS+ hard drive.

If you dont care about the network port aspect of it, the price of the original's should plummet to clear for the new ones that came out.

I'm using the WDTV Live connected with a wireless N dongle and running shows/movies off my NAS.

Works perfectly. I've tried HD and many many different formats with no problem, no buffering, no skipping. Very impressed by this device. So small and quiet and quick to start up compared to my Xbox that I stream with in my living room.

How does this work, doe sthe WDTV have some sort of hidden config features that let you tell it where your file shares are, or does it just automatically detect all public network shares? What Wireless N dongle are you using, also?

It can find them if your NAS has UPnP (which I use) or just browse the file share itself. You can pull your videos, music and photos off of it. It will detect all devices on your network.

I'm using a D-Link DWA-140 v1.30 USB adapter. The list of supported adapters is here:

That's good to know. I would like to stream HD media to my future HTPC and it seems like most people are just connected through a lan and it's harder to find testimonials about wireless. I would hate to have bought everything and then found out that I had no chance with streaming HD on wireless.

Bummer, just realized that we're talking about the WDTV LIVE (which I thought was already wireless) and not the regular WDTV HD, which does not have any wireless network dongle support listed on the web site.

EDIT: But the following wired adapters may work:

Since I am not very tech savy what is the benefit of this over a ps3? Now that it can be wireless is it as easy to use as having ps3 media server set up? Since I fail at networking I have had nothing but ease in using it to stream from my pc or mac computer

I don't have a PS3 or even seen it used for media, but the price for the WD was right!

Faster to boot up, way smaller, quieter, uses less power, and is cheaper (unless you already own a PS3).

It also supports a lot more formats. If you already have a PS3 and you're happy with it, no real point in getting one, unless you want to be able to stream to a different TV in your house.

The format thing is huge.
PS3 you always have to convert .mkv to .vob files.

WDTV you don't need to worry about it.

Also, I like loading my movies up via HDD or ext HDD, then no worries about network problems, so for me I love WDTV in that it actually handles the NTFS format; something neither the 360 nor ps3 do.

Anyone use the Asus O!Play?

I heard the remote is better, and it plays more than the WDTV. Downside-not as user friendly. I'd like to buy one of them before Xmas
