Thought this was a funny story -- apparently the two teams shared a plane back to Calgary. Kelowna in the front; media in the middle; Calgary in the back: http://reganbartel.blogspot.com/2009...p-setback.html

Quote:
The two teams are on a level playing field when it comes to travel. The Western Hockey League chartered a jet to fly the two teams back to Calgary. The Rockets had the front of the aircraft while the Hitmen took up the back half. The 45 minute flight was seamless with two buses waiting for the teams as they landed.

the Hitmen have to come out fast and score about three goals in the first period. They get an early lead and keep hitting everything that moves, they've got a good shot at it.

Well at least we won't have to hear about Hitmen fans whining about the refs after their loss tonight.

Hitmen dominated the whole game.

Well, as I mentioned in the other sports forum thread, Savage and Kirk certainly did their part for the Rockets this evening. Fortunately, Kelowna's power play is about as deadly as a nerf gun right now. At least they didn't fall for Barrie's acting job. Two minutes was bad enough, but he was trying his darndest to sell a major.

Nice to see Kelowna come unglued the last couple nights as well. This, clearly, is not a team that handles adversity well. Keep throwing those cheap shots after the whistle, boys. The great Kyle Beach couldn't get them off their games, and Almond and Callahan are no Kyle Beach.

Rockets are still in the drivers seat though. If we weren't already up against the wall, I would have said that the Rockets were in a world of trouble. But it could still only take one mistake to do us in.

Oh, and I think I saw Backlund once tonight... or at least his picture... on a milk jug. Other than Stone's idiocy that handed him a breakaway after the game was over, the kid was invisible.

I didn't get a chance to watch this game, but from what I remember, the Hitmen were always a heavily momentum based team: Have some and you're doing fine. Lack it, and try to get some. Goals, games, and series, the Hitmen seemed to be near invincible after getting started up

Hopefully this carries into game 6.

You really thought that the refs favored the Rockets tonight??

Game must look much different from the Saddledome.

No, it only looks different to you because your irrational hatred blinds you.

The McMillan "crosscheck" was an absolute joke of a penalty, made by your favourite referee no less, and there were two other penalties where we got called simply for being stronger. Whatever you think of the referees, they most certainly did not favour the Hitmen. The final penalty tally only became so lopsided after Kelowna spoiled their diapers at the end.

Irrational hatred?

I guarantee you care about the Hitmen much more than I supposedly hate them. Your homerism easily outweighs any bias I would have from the so-called irrational hatred.

The first two Hitmen goals were the direct result of the refs.

Not sure how a few iffy calls both ways after that negate the fact that the Hitmen were handed a 2-0 lead to start the game by the terrible refs.

Perhaps because the Hitmen were easily the better team?

I don't recall you whining about the refs handing Kelowna the game winning goal in game 1. So yeah, save your defences against your biases for someone who might not know better.

Didn't watch game 1 so why would I comment on it.

I wasn't even saying the refs were bad just that we wouldn't have to hear the whining we did in previous games from Hitmen fans because the refs clearly favored them in the first half of the game.

I have seen enough WHL games that I am not surprised at all at the refs making terrible calls at this point and don't care enough about this series to "whine" about the reffing.

As someone who's been cheering for the Hitmen, I thought we got generally favourable officiating in Game 5. Wish Backlund would've at least scored on his breakaway though.

i was at the last game, behind the goal at the end the hitmen attacked at in the 1st and 3rd. they controlled the game for almost the whole way. it was good to watch. backlund looked good, was never rushed on the puck, seemed to see the ice better, just couldnt get it going (then again, the rockets as a whole looked flat). watching that game, you would have thought the hitmen were the team trying to finish off their opponents.
the officiating was what you would expect. there was a coupel of questionable penalties, but it seemed to me like the rockets got the raw end of the deal more than the hitmen.
second ever hitmen gamee...both times they score 6 goals...i should get me some tickets more often

As a pretty neutral fan, the officiating was not a problem in game 5. Hitmen did not get the worse end of that, it was pretty even.
Rockets have come unglueded, and really need to step it up. If they lose Game 6, this series is over. No way can they stop the bleeding, come back to Calgary and win game 7. Its now or never for them. They have to get back to the game they were playing for the first 3 games of the series.
