I'm still looking for the site where you can filter out women based upon who they think should pay for dinner on the first date.

A little surprised at the number of guys admitting to using dating services.
Hmmm... maybe I should give in to my moms harrassment and sign up for one.

It's not really a big deal, most people now are more open to trying new things.
And you should sign up for one. What is the downside? wasting a little bit of time, you and everybody else does that on here enough as is....

My best friend met and married someone from Lavalife. Great gal. She works as a nurse in the pain management end of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre at the Foothills hospital in Calgary.
If i wasn't so damned independant i'd probably use that site also

There are a number of factors for why I haven't. However horrible of me this sounds, I think I still have the whole "it's desperate" thing in my head.
That, and anyone watched the first season of How I met your Mother, when Ted goes to the dating service and they come back and tell him there's no one out there for him? I guess I fear putting up a profile and getting nothing but ridicule or something in return.

Many people use these type of services as they don't believe that the bar and club scene is the best place to meet people. Bars and clubs are not where i'd want to meet someone also.

Why would someone ridicule you?

Yeah, I definitely have always been in the camp that doesn't like or want to meet people in the bars. It's a big meat market where everyone has one thing on their minds and it's not dating. It was never for me.

For being desperate and posting a profile? That's how I would feel having one. I don't know, it's my hang up.

Yeah, I'll confess that I did as well. When I ended things with my last girlfriend (of 2 years) 3 months ago, I really felt like I wanted to "get back out there" rather then sit at home and feel sorry for myself (in truth, I really ended up doing both). You know a few years ago, yeah it would sound desperate and sad - but hey, its 2009, a place like here in Silicon Valley, its a working city with professionals working 60 hour weeks and in high tech, its almost entirely a male dominated field.
I honestly don't feel I need to lie about it to my friends that I went out on a date or two with a girl I met online, and they weren't bottom of the barrel or anything. One was a 25 year, second year med student at Stanford, another is a 25 year old masters student in psych right now.
I guess between going out and taking initiative if you are interested in meeting someone or going on a date, it beats sitting at home and waiting for it to come to you.

But how were they personality-wise? I wouldn't date someone or rate them socially just because of what they study in school

The med student was a little too agreeable and didn't have a lot of personality (too much study) so I got bored and that was that. The psych girl is a little forward then I'm used to. I haven't really been able to find exactly the right girl for me (that would want me, lol). There was also the MIT girl I met a while ago, but I think I was getting tired of meeting people smarter then me; small penis syndrome I guess lol.

what about kijiji? i know its free...i did see on tv a dating service in calgary where do those 2 minute dates at a coffee shop downtown..ive never been single since I was 18 years old, but if I was, I might try a website where you pay instead of free..might get more serious people..my friend on vancouver island started her own dating club after she got divorced..she is a self made millionaire so she only wanted to date upper income people, started a millionaire dating club and has had alot of fun with that, and met the man of her dreams at the same time p.s. i am a pioneer of internet relationships! i met my man in a chat room 12 years ago and met him in real life 4 months later, and we've been inseparable since (and married with a daughter) that was before it was acceptable..we weren't on a dating site, just a regular chat room, but we never told very many people for ALOT Of years that we met in a chat room..now i don't care who knows because it is so acceptable now..it was very stigmatic at the time though
