Yup, I posted on the 2nd page. Casey Affleck is following him around with a camera pretty much 24/7.

But then again - Phoenix seems completely out of it and at times angry. I wonder if he is contractually obligated to promote the movie, but since he is no longer interested in films, this is his way of handling it?

Odd odd stuff.
I'm more inclined to believe the latter. The whole joke angle is too obvious. It has been done to death and seems, for a guy who takes acting as seriously as Phoenix, too heavy-handed. He has always been a bizarre dude and seems to be exactly the personality type that could splinter under the pressures of Hollywood.

On one occasion, Phoenix decided the buttons on my shirt needed to be unbuttoned, so he undid them -- all of them -- while I asked questions. Only my T-shirt underneath saved both of us from blushing. He thought it was peculiar that I continued the interview without any fuss. I told him 'ditto'. We both chuckled.

On another occasion, Phoenix was edgy and needed a smoke. But he stuck around long enough to mumble some thoughts. Still, he seemed distracted. I asked him why he was so serious. And he answered, by taking his bottle of water and pouring it down his front as though he'd missed his mouth.

Apparently the last time he was on Letterman:
Quote:
the actor came off as hilariously dazed and confused, claiming he couldn't remember his birthday or, at one point, where he got his tattoo. This follows a May spot on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno in which Phoenix was so distracted Leno requested that he ''be here in person'' next time. Phoenix's camp had no comment, but Late Show exec producer Maria Pope replies: ''He's been on three times now. The first couple of times we thought there was a gas leak in the greenroom. Now we've determined, no, that's just Joaquin.''

The director of Two Lovers seems genuinely baffled as well:

I think we are witnessing a genuine personal melt-down of epic proportions, which makes the video all the more disturbing.

I don't necessarily think this is meant as a joke, but I definitely think it's part of some sort of act.

It may be some kind of experimental gonzo type acting project. In the end it may result in a movie like the wrestler....only more real.

I just can't see that this is real... it's just too over the top.

Oh really? Are there any rumours that it could be for some kind of mockumentary or something?

I'm sure this has to be some kind of "social experiment"... he's getting a rise out of people and I'm sure that's exactly what he wants.

Either way though, what an effiin' mess.

Yes... Apparently they were members of the Children of God cult during the early years of his life.

I feel bad for Paul Shaefer. He didn't deserve that. I mean, it's his job to laugh maniacly. Screw you, Jokehim Phoenix.

This will no doubt go down as another 'was it real?' moment.

Real or fake, it was a hell of an entertaining interview.

If by some chance Pheonix is really having a meltdown, I hope people around him get him the help he needs.

Yes it has in a way. Phoenix's is much more subtle though. Glover staged a piece which was way out there intended to confuse the audience used to the same old same old. It's a recurring theme in his work. I think the guy is a little loopy but in an artsy fartsy sort of way as opposed to off his rocker.

Phoenix is doing the same mystery(is he nuts or doing a gotcha) I think as an exercise in pushing his acting. He appears to me to be far from nuts but more obsessed. The guy is by all accounts really really into his craft.

Is this a weird extension of that? I don't know but I'm intrigued to see the finished product.

At least Letterman didn't ask Joaquin about River. Before he was crazy Joaquin flipped if someone brought up his brother.

If he's doing something with this, he'd better do it soon. Next year... no one will care. he's at the height of whatever he's doing. I can only hope that if Casey Affleck has footage, it's not the start of the tape, but closer to the end.
