Classic Jacks on 17th Ave and 9th street Sw is a nice spot. Alot of HD tv's, show all the Flames games with full sound and good food - decent beer selection.

Friday and Saturday, they have pretty cheap drink specials on those nights too.

OK. I'm going to be back in Calgary for Christmas and am looking for good bars to go to while I'm there. I read through this thread but I'm looking for more specific advice.

What are cheap bar prices in Calgary? Last time I was in town I went to a place and had a couple pints for 6 bucks each, it felt like a ripoff.

Also, specials. Any good bars with food/beer specials on weekdays? In Idaho nearly every bar has them but I doubt that's the case in Calgary.

I'll be at my parents place on Park Hill right by the mission area.

It really depends on what area of the city you will be in. There is no point in suggesting places that are 45 minutes away.

In that case I'm not much help. I live really far away from there. If you put a bunch of the aforementioned places into googlemaps you might be able to find some that are close to you.

I'll add another vote to 1410. The staff is friendly, great selection of drinks, good atmosphere, and the food is great! I like Melrose and the Yardhouse, but during the summer. They are great patio places, but during the winter, you sometimes can't be bothered to drive around to try and find some parking. And when you do, it's blocks away, so not really worth it.

Definitely not my favourite place, but I've had a lot of good times there. Never anything wrong with getting hammered with friends and making a fool of yourself singing Karaoke.
