Geez, given the numbers you all are throwing around, I'd be lucky to get a soft drink comped down there.

Would you guys go alone? Looks like I may have to. Just really frustrated and pissed off right now.

I would go alone. Even if you cancel I doubt you'd give your mom bad rep with The Flamingo, and even if it gets her bad rep, its only the Flamingo. Nice place, but there are plenty of better places on the strip.

Well boys I went and had a great time. Was actually able to convince my buddies to book a flight and come down so I was able to meet up with them the first night. So it all worked out in the end.
Didn't gamble nearly as much as I thought I would. Just to many other things to do. Went to the Criss Angel show one night. Wasn't what I was expecting at all, but it was still alright. Was able to get a free limo ride and free alcohol to the Sapphire Strip Club from a promoter on the strip so we did that one night. Spent way to much money that night and once my buddies told a couple strippers it was my birthday they were all over me. That was one great night.
Sundays and Mondays not a lot of the big clubs were open so that was kinda dissapointing. Didn't get to check out LAX and a couple of the other clubs like we wanted to.
Definetly a fun place to go and can't wait to go again. Drank a lot, spent way more then I wanted to and just had a great time. Definetly worth it.

Are any of the rides at the Stratosphere or whatever worth the $$?

Ok bump...
I am going there next week.
Question: does anyone know a good place to watch hockey? I don't want to miss the Flames games, if I can help it.
Anyone been there recently? Any good shopping deals, or are they high prices to get tourists?
Best places to gamble? Best places to eat? How far is the Grand Canyon, a daytrip?

If memory serves there is a sports bar in the MGM which has about 7000 TVs. Not sure if you can convince anyone to put it on a big screen depending on what else is on but you should be able to catch it there, probably in most sportsbooks actually.

A big yes on the ejection seat... you can see out all over the desert, and you feel like you're going to land out there too
The others... not as good. The one that lunges forward is only worth it if you get the front seat. It'll freak you out. The roller coaster is probably the second best next to the ejection seat. The twirling thing is pretty tame.

Any sportsbook in any casino with newer renovations... Vegas is a great place to watch sports. MGM and Caesar's are particularly good IMHO, but I haven't been to all of them on the strip.
If you want a bar where you can get better drink and food service, hit the EPSN bar in New York New York...very well outfitted with huge screens at the front and controls at your booth (if you get one...go early) where you can pick the audio from whichever game you want to watch.
Hooters can also be fun if you don't get a good seat elsewhere. Pretty trailer-parkish, but fun none the less.

I would say yes, even as someone who doesnt enjoy rides all that much it was pretty cool. And I think if you do all three it comes in a bundle package which makes it cheaper.

I've watched a couple of games at the sportsbook at MGM Grand and at NYNY. I haven't seen NYNY since their renos, but it was really easy to watch the games at the sportsbook without having to enter the sportsbook... you just don't get audio or in some cases, much audio.

You're probably talking about the sportsbook. Its near the poker room and centrifuge. The Lions are within eyesight I believe.

because when I'm in Vegas my main concern is not to do what I would do at home. I can watch chunks of the games by getting up and walking over to the sportsbook when I need a break from gambling or whatever else I'm doing. When I am at home I would hunker down for two and half hours and watch hockey, I'd rather try to do something else when I'm on vacation. I'll allow my self to stop and watch parts of the games and checkout the score, because I don't want to come home not knowing what has happened. If I was there during the Stanley Cup finals it may be a different story but I try to plan my trips to happen NOT during the playoffs.

I would recommend going to see that Las Vegas Wranglers play - they play at the Orleans I believe. Seats are cheep, and it is a great way to start your night before getting into all of the other inevitable tomfoolery.

I just came back, I watched the Sens-Flames game at the bar across from the Mystere Theatre in Treasure Island...
Go to the Premium Outlets just North of the Strip for shopping (take the Deuce and transfer to Bus #108 at the Denny's past the Stratosphere) the deals are crazy there, we bought half the Puma store for $300. Don't bother with the other outlet mall in the South if you like big brand names, most of them are in the North one. There's also the Fashion Show mall if you want to feel like you're just shopping at a fancier version of Southcentre. And then there's the Wynn & Encore Esplanade, plus the Forum Shops at Caesars if you got cash to burn.
Gambling: check out the Encore (new addition to Wynn), get a Red Card and you'll get $10 free credit for giving your email. Play the slots, they're pretty loose there, I think it's because they just opened last week...
Eat: Try SeaBlue by Michael Mina at the MGM, I thought it was pretty decent, the seafood paella is awesome. They have a 3-course menu for $59. If you're on a budget there's always $3 for a hotdog and a beer at Bill's (former Barbary Coast). There's something for everyone in Vegas...I would avoid the Buffets if you don't like 2 hour lineups with screaming kids though.

You can catch a shuttle to Primm. They've apparently got some good outlet shopping there. My wife and y co-worker's wife went there and found some great deals while my co-worker and I were at a convention in Vegas. I think you can catch that shuttle at either MGM Grand or Harrah's... can't remember which one (maybe both?).

Its not a free shuttle, I think it is $10. I don't think the deuce takes you to primm though.. I could be wrong. I've only used the deuce to go to Freemont Street.
