Sure, why not? I have a pretty thick skin about my musical tastes, but there's a couple categories there I think are going to give me trouble.

No worries, I'm pretty sure I'm going to turn this into exactly what troutman said he didn't want - a draft of Creedelback (Creed + Nickelback) clones.
I'm going to see how many bands I can pick that, when played back to back, are indistinguishable from each other. Should be fun.

Since I'll propably pick a whole bunch of Finnish albums nobody's ever heard of, I doubt you'll do worse than me

I like ABBA better than ABBA. For those who don't know, ABBA is a mock-cover group whose name is "ABBA" spelled backwards.

Looking at the category list again, I feel like suggesting changes:
First, I think we need at least a pre 1980's category. (Personally I'd do this by decade's starting with pre-sixties, but I guess I'm just old.) People should at least be able to come up with ONE "older" album, right?. Also, it'd be nice to have a category of just 2008. "Album of the year" is such a classic category.
Second, "eighties" is usually 1980-1989, so even if you split it into two, it'd make more sense to make it 1980-1984 and 1985-1989. If you have just two nineties categories and two 2000's categories (plus the best of 2008), which would keep the amount of timebased categories at 8.
So that would make it:
Album - pre 1980's
Album - 1980-1984 (early 80's)
Album - 1985-1989 (late 80's)
Album - 1990-1994 (early 90's)
Album - 1995-1999 (late 90's)
Album - 2000-2003 (early 00's)
Album - 2004-2007 (later 00's)
Album - 2008
(This I had nothing to add to
Album - Live
Album - Soundtrack
Album - Greatest Hits/Compilation
Album - wildcard
And then, the genre-list. I noted that there was something rather obvious missing (POP?!?), and started fiddling. Then I kept coming up with more genres, and started noting how impossible the genre-labels are these days (what's alternative anyway, and how come Green Day is Punk?). More importantly, I thought that there would propably be too many categories which people just couldn't pick in, because many people just don't listen to that many genres. I don't listen to rap / hip hop, others never listen to jazz, or metal, or punk, or country...
So I tried a different approach for that part; eight categories that are more about association and how people use music, instead of standard genres. Kind of "out there", I know, but I thought this would be more fun than just seeing who gets Metallica and who picks Toxicity. I'm not sure if this idea translates at all, but here's what I came up with.
It's basicly like a word association game.
Album - Dance
Album - Relaxation
Album - Vent
Album - Art
Album - Smile
Album - Party
Album - Sexy
Album - Thoughtful

your older albums can go here:
Album - Jazz
Album - Blues
Album - Rock
Album - Rap/Hip-hop
Album - Folk, Country and Western
Album - Electronica/Techno
Album - Metal
Album - Punk
Album - Live
Album - Soundtrack
Album - Greatest Hits/Compilation
Album - wildcard
there is no year attached to any of those categories, choose whatever you want.

Doesn't leave a lot of room, since half of those genres are pretty recent (most of metal, punk, electronic, rap) and Folk/country/western is North American only really. I also think the point of this kind of a draft is to in a way MAKE people pick with some variance.
If nothing else, let's make the genre-list a little more inclusive. Also, Blues is not really an album-oriented genre, so I'd just leave it out or bundle it with Jazz and Classic.
How about :
Album - Pop
Album - Rock
Album - Jazz / Classic / Blues
Album - Folk / World (Country, Western, Bluegrass, Reggae, Afro, Flamenco, what ever)
Album - Heavy / Metal
Album - Rap / Hip Hop / R&B / Funk
Album - Electronica / Techno
Album - Punk / Political

Last chance for GM entrants today.
Anyone want to implement Itse's suggestions? As said earlier in the thread, no one is going to be too picky about what genre an album falls under, if it can reasonably fit.
Any need for a snake draft? I would not think it is necessary when there are millions of albums to choose from.
Who can randomize the draft order fairly?

So Itse's suggestion, if I understand it, expands a few categories to include a few missing genres (classic, world, etc.), combines Jazz/Blues, and adds "Pop". (Does classic = classical?)
Sounds fine with me.
