Sammy's and Matador are some of the best pies in YYC.

Papa John's is at the top? Yikes.

At least that place in Winnipeg looks really good.

There is a whole long-time Pizza thread here that doesn't involve unholy resurrection!

I dont know how long its been around, but like I said, I'm convinced its a money-laundering front.

That pizza is hot-awful.

You walk in and I swear its like:

"You want a what now? A pizza? Uh....sure...I guess we could make a pizza...*performs awkward unfamiliar motions with a rolling pin*"

Papa Johns was really good before they overhauled their recipe a few years ago.

But we can agree that 'Papa John' himself is a piece of s###?

And....he may not be a Pimp, but I think he's pimped a little in his day. I'm just saying that he hasnt dont 'zero pimping' in his time.

The man is a monster.

We can agree on that. The Canadian locations must have much better suppliers if it was ever really good. The ones out here don't.

I would say the same for Panago.

Domino's was our go to in Calgary, but it's awful in the states.

Its funny, Domino's has improved a lot!

When I was a kid it was the bottom of the barrel in terms of Pizza, its was like burnt cardboard...just terrible.

Now they've sort of upped the quality a bit, decided where they wanted to be on the 'Pizza Pecking Order' and they're tolerable. It wouldnt normally decide to go to a Domino's but if we're ordering Domino's I'm not necessarily leaving either.

I don't know if we got a bad batch, but the dough on both pies was mealy.

I'll give it one more go, but we never had that issue in Calgary. Everything we ordered from the Center Street location was excellent.

Last couple of years the dough at our Dominos has become really mealy. It was good at one point in time but typically we eat about half the pie and then throw it out.

I try every few months thinking it was a bad batch, but I think they’ve changed their dough recipe.

I tried it once. It was absolutely wretched. The sauce was some compound of ketchup and BBQ sauce and the 'dough' was like some pre-made frozen pizza disk. Just add your oil-based 'cheese' and assorted crap toppings.

For the record, the Winnipeg pizza place I was talking about was the one you mentioned (Wall St Slice).

I'm telling you, its a money-laundering front.

Otherwise you'd have to put effort into making pizza that bad and still stay in business for this long.

Papa John's the best? May be different in Canada, but my ex loved Papa John's... yet couldn't eat it without dipping it in ranch. If your pizza needs to be dipped in something, it's terrible. (I personally hate it and will never order it)

I never understood that either.

"Dipping sauces?"

"I just ordered a pizza. No chicken strips."

"Yeah, for the pizza?"

"...?"

I thought the dipping sauce was to reduce throwing away crust

Not sure why they’d care. It’s probably 2/5 the calories of the entire thing with zero taste.
