At least the Hitmen can beat Edmonton... 7-2 pasting of the wannabe-Oilers this afternoon. Kozun already has 10 goals. He's making a monster statement for himself in his draft year. Sonne is now third in the league in points at 19.

Wouldn't Kozun have been available during the draft year since he would have turned 18 before the September 15 deadline? or am I mis-reading the rules on draft eligibility? And according to the WHL site his birthday is March 8 1990 which means the NHL would consider him as a 19 year old and an 18 year old in the past draft. Which I guess would still make him draft eligible but for his second year. Not questioning your knowledge I just want to make sure i'm understanding the draft eligibility right and if i'm not than i can change my understanding on it.
But he has been showing some nice finish so far this season.

Actually, you might be right. Wasnt even paying attention to his birth year, just the fact that he's listed as eligible in 2009.

He wont be able to go back up until Lethbridge's season is over. given the expectations for his NHL and junior teams, I suspect he'll still be playing hockey after the Canes are done.

Good point. I look forward to watching him when Lethbridge comes to town next month.

Calgary keeps rolling along with a 4-3 win over Red Deer tonight. Once again we fell down 2-0 to the Rebels in the first before storming back. Goofy officiating definitely helped our cause though.

Giants/O-Ks wasn't even a game... 6-0 looked like there was nobody there too.

How did the Rebels play? I heard that their 1st and 3rd periods were really good but they stunk in the 2nd with 5 straight powerplays against. I actually like the team this season, compared to last. They play with heart and compete, although falling short quite often right now. What's your thoughts?

The first half of the first period was really good. A couple of good tips that just eluded Snyder. Both were goofy looking goals, but the Rebels deserved them. About halfway through, the shots were 8-5 Red Deer. Calgary took over after that, finishing the period with a 14-11 edge in shots.
Calgary pretty much owned the second. And yes, we did get a lot of powerplays, which Wallin was none too pleased with. I was waiting for his head to asplode. In one case, Red Deer got nailed with a boarding penalty less than a minute after a Hitmen player got away with a very similar check.
Third period Calgary fell back into the prevent defence a bit, with predictable results. Red Deer almost tied it with 3 seconds left. The puck was right on the goal line.

Having season tix to the Rebels I can tell you that most nights they work much harder than last year but they just don't have enough skill to keep up with the good teams. Wallin puts all his eggs in one basket with Polak, Ferraro, and Mappin on a line. Basically if Clark stands on his head and they out work teams they will have some success.

Hitmen win an odd game tonight. Stormed out to a 3-0 lead, but kinda fell asleep after the Warriors swapped goalies. Moose Jaw then took over, taking a 4-3 lead into the third. Chris Savage (sigh), ignored a clear hook on a Carson McMillan breakaway, but the Hitmen responded by ripping the tying goal right off the next faceoff. A powerplay goal later, and Calgary won. Did it the hard way too, as they spent 4 of the last 5 minutes on the penalty kill.
And, we're up to 6th in the country in the latest top ten rankings.

Chiefs drop a game to Seattle tonight 3-2. Not much production from our first line. Tyler Johnson picked up another goal and an assist, while Cowen gets credit for an assist along with Tokarski. An odd game in it's own right, with 11 penalties overall.
10 in the first (fight @ 16:21 accounted for 7) and 1 tripping call in the third.

One other thing - anyone looking for Teddy Bear Toss game tickets (Nov 30 vs Brandon) might want to do it soon. The lower and upper bowls are almost sold already. Closest I can get 3 tickets is row 20 of the upper bowl.

Can someone explain why they bother having the Giants even play their games anymore if the refs are constantly going to hand them the games with terrible calls?
I am not sure if it is Hay that intimidates them, but this is the 6th time I have seen them in the last 3 years and they always get a ton of questionable calls going their way.
I can't wait until they get beat in the second round of the play-offs this year. I would feel bad for their fans but I am sure those bandwagoners won't really care at all.

I know you are a real fan, moon, but given your own fan base's historical level of support, I'm not sure you should be trashing others as being bandwagoners.
As far as the officiating goes, Chris Savage was one of the zebras. Given he missed an obvious penalty shot last night, it's kinda hard to argue his incompetence is deliberate.
