Those are all winnable games. I have doubts that they will be good enough or consistent enough to win them all but at the top end of the scale I would say that 8 wins is possible.
But more realisitically I think they are a 6 win team that shows some good things at times and makes their fans pull their hair out with a bad loss or two.

Notre Dame won't beat North Carolina (which will be improved) and especially Pitt (who will compete for the Big East).
They're much more likely to beat Boston College and Michigan (who will be terrible this year).

Yikes.....if not Weiss should be run out of town.
NC was competing for the worst team in the country last year among D-1 schools. Winning 3 times in an extremely weak ACC conference....including a beat down of the powerhouse James Madison.
Butch Davis will help them in a couple years....but they have a LONG way to go before they can even be considered an average team.

Notre Dame was any better? They beat Duke, Stanford, and a UCLA team that was playing a walk-on freshman QB for 3.5 quarters.
North Carolina was selected 2nd in the ACC Coastal pre-season poll. SI has them in the same spot. They'll very likely finish with an 8-4 record - a better record than Notre Dame will put up.

I don't think they will win all those games listed I just think that those are the games in which they will have the best shot. I think ND is a team that will win a tough game like Pitt and then have a stinker that they certainly should win.
NC is getting better but are not there yet and Pitt is so inconsistent that I think they can be beat every week. Also, not sure competing for the Big East title means a team is much more than average.
I think Michigan certainly is down but still are better than most teams and will be able to beat ND.

But played a way harder schedule....and this is coming from a guy that hates ND and the hype they get.

Pre season polls mean bupkus...we all know that. However...finishing 2nd in the Coast in the ACC is nothing shhort of being average in relation to the rest of the country though. They just arent a very good football conference past a very inconsistent Clemson and Virginia Tech.
Like I said...Davis will get them better to a degree....but it will take time IMO. They were brutal last year.

I wouldn't say that. North Carolina did play South Florida and South Carolina (who were #12 at the time) in out of conference play.
Even if Notre Dame did play a tougher schedule they got blown out in every loss except Navy. They weren't even remotely in a game until they beat UCLA (starting a walk-on freshman).

Pre-season polls don't mean a whole lot, but they are a pretty good indicator of where there's talent. North Carolina is a lot like Pittsburgh - young team with a good amount of talent that should be improve greatly this season.
Being second in the ACC Coastal Division is probably average compared to the rest of the nation...but Notre Dame is a below average football team right now.

Thanks a bunch.

likely flamescentral would be your best bet, I'd call ahead tho to 2x check they have the game you want.
NFL will be no problem, lots of places will have sunday ticket, however to get a regional college game, say FSN will be tougher. If flamescentral can't pick up the FSN you want then I'm not positive where to go.

I'm getting excited for some real football finally.
#24 Alabama visits #9 Clemson in a Saturday Night Clash on ABC. As a Dolphins fan (hate that bumb Saban) and a Clemson fan, I am all over this one. If my Tigers want to get to a BCS game or challenge for even a surprise national title game' (yah its a long shot with there schedule but going undefeated will make ppl think about it) then this is a game they must win. First game of the year and it's allready a huge one.

And that wraps up our synopsis of JV football on the continent, back to you Tom.
Actually it would be nice if people out here cared about CIAU ... or whatever it's called now football. The problem here is that they have to play in too large a stadium. I'd love to see a 5000 seat stadium built for Dinos and Colts ball.

41-10 LSU in the 4th qtr. Good to see that the time change of the game did not affect the Tigers, I was a bit concerned it wouldn't be a blowout.
Charles Scott looked good, but raw last season. This year, I think he is the most NFL ready running back I've seen at LSU in the last dozen years. That includes Joseph Addai and Kevin Faulk. 160 yds, 2 TD today.
With Gustav gaining speed, I'm wishing the best for everyone along the Gulf Coast. Hopefully the track keeps moving west, and New Orleans is not hit with a big one again.

No big upsets as of yet from either Thursdays games and so far on Saturday. Those thinking Appalaichan State could pull out a miracle for a second straight year have been brought back to reality as LSU is smoking them 34-7 in the 3rd. Horrible game too.
Hawaii tried hanging with FLA early but they are simply no match from what I have seen. Still 10 minutes left in the 2nd Q though.
OSU beating up n a weak opponent in week 1....nothing new there. I dont understand why OSU schedules such cupcakes....look at what some of the other schools are doing. Big 10....ugh. Take the lead from schools like USC and Tennesee and such...go on the road and play someone...otherwise the record is skewed.
Missouri/Illinois tonight should be a dandy....as should Mich. St. and Cal.
I see where Pitt (everyones pre-season media darlings) are in a struggle with Bowling Green...Wandstat has to be on the hot seast this year. What an over-rated coach, though I loved that the Panthers squished VT last year.
Also...who else in the country starts with a tougher 2 games than Eastern carolina. Virginia Tech and West Virginia to start?? Ouch.

Just a note...in their last 6 quarters and 5 minutes of playing SEC teams...Hawaii has been outscored 83-10. Just another dagger to those that thought the Islanders should of been anywhere near a national championship game last season. they simply are not in the same league.

10 returnees on Def, and 9 on Offense...This is the Year of Beanie Wells! It will be pretty interesting to see how Tressel uses Pryor...Especially in the USC game. Something tells me that Terrell Pryor will play a big roll in the outcome of that game. The freshman is going to be fun to watch for a couple years.
|
Wells was carted off the field unable to put any weight on his right leg in the Youngstown State game. This is why I hate the way OSu schedules their games...I mean what a waste. Losing a Heisman candidate for what could be a long time because you play him against 2nd rate opponents to inflate your win/loss totals. At least if this was a legitimate opponent, it wouldnt have such horrible optics.

Huge props to East carolina...as noted earlier, they open with the hardest schedule in the country with a neutral game in Charlotte against Va. Tech and West Virginia at home next weekend.
Well they block a punt late and score a TD to win by 5 over a top 20 team in the country.
Huge upset, and if they can beat WV next week, then put them in the mix for a major BCS game should they win Conference USA.
Good stuff.

Any Michigan fans around?
Game isnt over but they are getting manhandled by UTAH at home (down 12 in the 3rd Qtr)...shades of App St last year in the opener, but granted Utah is a much more formidable foe this time. Looks like the prognosticators who said Michigan could have a horrendous season by there standards were correct. No way should they of been a top 25 team at seasons start.

Just took a gander at the Oklahoma/Tenn-Chattanooga box score. Two minutes to go and OU leads 57-2. No surprise there, of course, but what is amazing is the yardage.
488-30
Wow.
I know, OU is a top 5 team, and Chattanooga is a 1-AA team, but holding any team to 30 total yards is impressive.
Oh, and Demarco Murray is freaking awesome.
