Question about the animated category: are films that are partially live action, partially animated allowed? (And no, I'm not thinking of the film that you think I'm thinking of.)

Yup. We're going by the imdb definition so if it says "animation" under Genre then it qualifies.

There's a ton of strategy involved here, hence some of the surprising picks. In a perfect world I would have taken 'The Godfather' with my first pick. However, I still have a good chance at some great classics further down the draft but I'm certain Shawshank, given it's reputation as a more recent classic, would have gone way before my 2nd pick. It was a chance I couldn't take. I'm counting on being able to pick up some of my older favourites later on. The categories certainly make this a tactical exercise too.
Thanks GirlySports for all your hard work on these drafts. They have been a great idea. Kudos to you.
This draft is harder than I thought because there is just such a vast pool of movies to choose from... I had trouble making that first pick. I wanted to list about 15 movies with that one pick. My strategy, just pick movies that I like. Nuff said.
Here goes. Impossible to judge the mindset of other drafters and thus it is difficult to pick one movie at this point as there are so many to choose from. I narrowed it down to two choices and in the end picked based on what title may be more likely to fall to me. So...without further adieu I bring you Fight Club. (tentatively placed in the Action category)

Thanks. So here we go:
For my first pick and 16th pick overall, I choose in the Musical category (bet you weren't expecting that one), Pink Floyd The Wall (1982) by Alan Parker and Roger Waters.
"The life of the fictional rock star 'Pink' is the subject of the visually evocative cult film based upon the music and visions of the group Pink Floyd as portrayed in the album of the same title. Relationships, drug abuse, sex, childhood, WWII and fascism combine in a disturbing mix of episodic live action and lyrical animation..." (Keith Loh, IMDB)
One of my absolute favourite movies all time, everytime I watch this I'm just blown away by emotions. Just amazing, and also happens to be about the only musical I could think of that I really really like, hence the first pick
