There will be some (presumably from Sony Pictures) that you can full out purchase through the system.

Indeed, but that differs from the "rental service."

I have a 360 Elite and a Wii.

When BlueRay matters to me I will buy a PS3.

I love the 360 for the Media Centre alone to watch old Transformer, Astro Boy, and GI Joe cartoons on.

Personally the way storage costs are going I tend to believe media distribution might be alot more digital. I love my DVD collection but why have it take up so much space.

the ps3 rental service is a lot like the itunes rental store. Pretty simple really, you purchase a rental and once you start watching it you have it for a period of time. Kinda cool if you (like me) find blockbuster about as much fun as a hang-nail.

This service is not yet available in Canada, but much as there was a delay with itunes, I expect the absence to be short-lived.

Go 360, I own all three systems (don't ask), and the 360 is by far my favorite. Although all my dvd's I watch on the PS3 since it is easier, MUCH MUCH QUIETER, and I trust it more for reliability, plus I have the remote, not to mention I have about 40 Blu-Ray's. XD

I didn't bother reading the thread (too long for me :|) but the new 360 (with the 60GB HDD) won't be anything different than this one now (20 GB), except for the HDD. Go get it right now, if you already haven't.

Also, if you do get it/got it, I suggest buying Mass Effect, Oblivion, Call of Duty 4, NHL 09 (releases Sept.), and GTA IV. All are excellent games.

As far as I know, the Xbox movie rental/purchase already works.

There are apparently Disney and MGM movies coming to the xbox live marketplace, but the new Netflix system won't be implemented until Canadians get access to Netflix. I could be incorrect, but that's my understanding,

After reading the apple tv thread I might just bypass the whole thing and just get one of those. As I read in another thread regarding this: I guess Steve Jobs is the only one who wants my money.
