Fretboard looks very Ibanez like, it's therefore too wide. I need the strings tightly spaced. Nobody makes guitars like that unfortunately.

so, I recently picked up another MIM Fender Strat.
It came with a rosewood fretboard, which I really like!
My existing Strat had a maple fretboard......
so, what I did was swap out the fretboards and I am gonna keep the one of them as a Fender Strat with 3 single pick ups in it.
The other one, I am ripping the electronics out of it and putting in these humbuckers.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...lenotsupported
so basically then I will have a Strat body, maple neck with two humbuckers. Hopefully giving it that Gibson LP kind of sound.
I bought a LP Voodoo a while back but found the guitar uncomfortable to play. I am hoping this will give me the same kind of sound but in a more comfortable guitar.

Hey I thought I'd bump this thread because I'm looking into buying this guitar
http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_...&series_id=228
Anyone have any experience with these guitars or something similar? I'd welcome any advice.

If I'm not mistaken that one is relatively inexpensive.
Personally, I can't stand the feel of the bottom end ibanezes but I love their well made ones. I haven't played that particular model so I can't say for sure but my initial reaction based on what its priced at and the brand it is would be to probably steer clear of it.
Just one man's opinion - take with a grain of salt.

Since this thread just got revitalized, I thought I would share my newest creation.
A bit of background. I have always liked the Gibson Les Pauls and their sound but I bought a LP Voodoo a while back and thought that it would be the coolest thing. I found I didnt like playing it cause of the neck being so big. So it never got played.
My bandmate who is also a guitar builder suggested we find a Fender Strat and basically turn it into a LP. So I found a Strat in Calgary and had my other band mate pick it up for me. We then ripped out the electronics and added a the seymour duncan vintage blues pickups. They are humbuckers calibrated for the neck and bridge position. We put in a three way switch with single tone and volume knobs. We blocked the bridge as I dont use a whammy bar anyways and voila...this is what we ended up with. I just got it back yesterday and will be trying it out shortly at our next band practise.

Since it seems there are a ton of guitar players on CP, does anyone have any solid recommendations for a cheaper acoustic guitar?
I just started playing at Christmas this year, on an electric. For an acoustic, I'm hoping to spend between 200-300, maybe more if I can't get something decent in that range.
Any advice on guitars/brands, as well as where to find them, would be greatly appreciated.

Anything made by the Godin company should suit your needs perfectly. They're made in Canada and are great value.

I bought this guitar about a year ago and am incredibly happy with it. I think it cost around $300 or so. All the major music stores in Calgary (Long and McQuade, Axe, Guitarworks) should stock Godin acoustics.

I've heard some good things about Seagull's, and I'll definitely be checking out the other brands as well. Thanks

You're breaking my heart Axel... humbuckers in a strat, you crazy SOB, all kidding aside, glad to have you in the Fender Family and enjoy your new guitar.. the best of both words. out of curiously, would you know what type of neck you have on it.
Take pride in it, looks like it's going to fit you to a T. Has the same look almost of the guitar I picked up in October

Hey Doug,
I've always been in the Fender family as my other Strat has the original single coil pick ups in it.
With regards to the neck, its a Standard Strat neck off my 2004 Strat. Its Maple. If you want to know the radius and stuff, I would have to look it up. I took the Rosewood neck that was on this Strat and put it on to the Strat that has the single coils on it. I really REALLY like Rosewood fret boards. I know for a fact, that I will change this neck at some point in the near future.
BTW, I really like that Strat of yours. The offsetting colours of black body and white pickups with tuning knobs looks outstanding!!
On another side note, you do realize they put Humbuckers into a Strat already, right? I believe they call it the Fat Strat and there's a humbucker in the bridge position.

You've never heard of a Fat Strat?
They're even made directly by Fender.

I don't really know how you would feel about a 3/4 scale guitar but I've noticed that the baby Taylor is starting to get a huge following at house jams... it seems to be a perfect travailing type of guitar rather then bringing a $4000 guitar
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/p...tar?sku=514967
MarchHare: Yes i know about the Fat Strat, I'm just a huge single coil guy and was busting Axel's ball's, anyone else I wouldn't have joked about it. Maybe one day I'll do the Albert King but thats still a long while away. I have 3 strats now and trying to hold myself back for another year before getting another ( I have two in mind).

I really love the guitar but i wouldn't recommend it, cost way too much but i would heavily recommend the bridge pickup to anyone that doesn't normally use the bridge pickup on their strats. Anyone that uses Muffs, fzz other types of distortions... this pickups just sings, it's over wound and a lot hotter then most... its a Seymour Duncan SSL-5
David Gilmour once had his '62 Rosewood neck on his black strat for the Animals tour. It wasn't till the Live 8 reunion that he took it off and replaced it with the neck from his 1983 ‘57 reissue maple neck .I personally think it look a lot better then the maple.

Ah, so I'm not the only one who finds guitar-buying addictive! I think I enjoy collecting guitars almost as much as I like playing them. For the past two years, I've averaged one new guitar every six months...and recently I've had the urge to buy a Strat (both my electric guitars are Gibsons with humbuckers).
