Maybe it's my profuse hatred for Nicholas Cage. That movie just made my eyes bleed.
FTR, my definition of worst movie is the movie that I enjoyed the least and made me want to kill the most people. Adaptation easily wins.
OK, I can see that. I loved Adaptation, though. Definitely not everybody's cup of tea--but I can see how if you're not a fan of the meta-narrative you might find it infuriating.
For me, the movie that most meets the description above is 12 Monkeys. Hated, hated, hated that movie. And the worst part was that the large group I was with all loved it.
How did we get this far without mentioning Titanic? That was terrible. When I die, watching that whole movie will probably be one of my deepest regrets.

I absolutely loved Adaptation, but I can see someone not liking it because I absolutely loathed "Being John Malkovich" which was by the same director and was equally offbeat. Both movies were faves of the critics and Adaptation has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
EDIT ---
I'll add "Escape from LA" to my list; this is the only movie I've walked out of at a theatre.

Heh... I liked Malkovich...
But I just now remembered the movie I hated even more than Adaptation.
Borat. Just an abortion of a "movie". I'd watch Adaptation 10x in a row if it meant that I could avoid seeing Borat once.
Catwoman. I downloaded it, and still felt ripped off.
Unbreakable was unwatchable. Two hours of character development, while the plot, storyline and climax were reduced to three pages of text at the end.
Cast Away. I wanted to stab myself in the face by the time that was over. I stayed in the theatre to watch that one only because I really liked the girl I was with...
only movie I've walked out of and got a refund, EVER, and I watch a lot of movies, even made it thru Bedazzled and Serving Sara both of which should receive honorable mention in this thread.
Nicholas Cage movies all suck. Especially the one with him as a soldier in Italy with Penelope Cruz. I hated Titanic. But if I had to pick my all time least favorite movie that I actually sat through without turning off in the first ten minutes, which is many, I'd have to pick...Days of Thunder. Oh or would it be the one where this couple are just floating in the water for 1 1/2 hours ..it felt like 18 hours of hell..I think I'd rather be in the ocean floating with the sharks than watch that movie. sorry don't remember the name of it. My husband and I wasted a night out on our own on that waste of a movie too!
