You must not have had to pay for your own education. I digress, I wasn't trying to bait you, I just was making a comment on the stereotype that women date men for their money. How does a med student find all the time to date? Just curious.

It's not flowers delivered to me at work, but my husband is taking me snowmobiling at Revelstoke for the weekend. I guess that's fair, but Bobblehead is right - when I watch the deliveries arrive for all the other girls, I do feel a little left out.

What? No secret admirers sending you flowers at work?

Hey guys,
I'll be making my way to Grand Cayman on that day. Well, I get in on the 15th and the 14th (valentines day) is a whole day of travelling (Calgary - Vancouver - Las Vegas - Ft. Lauderdale)
We'll have a few hours in Vegas (about 4 or 5) so can anyone suggest a few good ideas what I can do that isn't too gambling related (my fiancee hates gambling, but we'll do something in Vegas if we want to)

Anyone have any good recommendations for online flower delivery? Planning to send a dozen roses to my girlfriend's workplace for Valentines in Toronto.

I think that's kinda the point of the whole excercise. Just because there's lots of people in the failure pile doesn't make them any less of a failure of such a test. I'm sure as someone in med school you can appreciate standards that aren't meant to accomidate the majority.

Valentines day is a crock, a fabrication used by Hallmark to sell their wares. No, I am not bitter...

This isn't really related to the original purpose of this thread, and probably a little bit delayed, but some things need to be questioned....

As a soon-to-be doctor, I'd hope you're familiar with the concept of referencing your sources. Would you care to back up the above statements with anything concrete? In particular, a Canadian divorce rate at or near 50% of marriages entered, and a statistically significant indication that the divorce rate is currently increasing.

What's something a guy would want to do for Valentines day?
(Actual suggestions would be appreciated, I realize there are lots of sexual things guys would like to do on Valentines day, or any day for that matter, but I am talking about non sexual activities)

Well, the following suggestion applies to almost any special day...birthdays, v-day, whatever...but maybe it's useful.
For me, the best thing to do is ESCAPE THE USUAL ROUTINE. Dinner someplace different. Get out of town. Do something you wouldn't normally do without an excuse. But whatever it is, it shouldn't be something that requires a lot of effort to prepare for...no dressing up in suit & tie, etc.
Those are my thoughts, however disorganized they may be.

You really have to think inside the box on this one.
Remember: there is nothing Valentine's day related, other than sex, that any straight man anywhere is, to any degree, interested in doing. Therefore, you have to think of non-Valentine's related things. Like watching hockey, drinking beer, getting drunk and going to see Rambo, playing sports, watching sports, eating greasy food, passing gas.
Keep in mind that Valentine's day is basically guaranteed loss day for guys: no matter what your situation, you lose. Single? Feel lonely. In a relationship? Spend money or die. You see, we have no reason to like Valentine's day, so the activity that most appeals to us is pretending it doesn't exist, and doing what we like to do anyway.
From the above list, I'd suggest sports. Go skiing or something.

A nice backrub? a homecooked meal? No Flames game, but if the Sens are playing and he's a fan, get beer, junk food, and just watch the game with him that night?
Traditionally, my girlfriend makes me something every year and puts a lot of effort into it, so I always reallly appreciated that. Can't speak on behalf of all guys, but we generally like to be reassured that our girlfriends care about us too.

not to nit pick but the peak for divorce rates in canada was in 1987 and they're down quite significantly since.

It seems like factoring out the Maritimes and Territories, the divorce rate in Canada is a steady 40% or so. Not factored in of course is the impact of serial-divorcees. What would really be useful to know is the number of first-marriages (for both parties) which end in divorce. Probably it would be around this same number, but it appears there's enough divorcees out there to skew the stats a bit with their re-marriages.
Edit: And, worth noting, the peak divorce rate in 1987 is essentially attributable to changes in divorce legislation, simplifying the process for couples looking to split up. It's essentially an artificial spike it what is otherwise a pretty steady trend.
