This thread made me feel sick in my tummy. I couldnt read all of the posts.....I had to stop at the lobster being cooked in the pan while it was alive.

The only positive from this is that their peers know who they are and I would suspect many a beating are coming their way. I know I would.

Microwaving a cat? That's disgusting. They taste the best when they are BBQ'd or pan fried.
But seriously, that's horrible.

Bump. Teens plead guilty and sentenced:
Two 16-year-old Alberta boys who admitted breaking into a neighbour's house, putting the family cat in a microwave and then watching it cook to death have been sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service.
Youth court Judge Shauna Miller also banned the pair from owning pets for two years, which means one of the teen's family will have to give up a dog they purchased just 10 months ago.
The teens each plead guilty to charges of break, enter and theft, mischief and causing unnecessary pain, suffering and injury to an animal in the grisly incident that took place during Christmas holidays last year.

Norm!

Hopefully the 100 hours of community service includes cleaning out ovens from the inside while they're turned on.

"Vegetarian" is from an ancient dialect, meaning "me no hunt so good."

Make them work putting excess stray cats down for the animal shelter. Seriously.

This just makes me sick to my stomach when I hear about this story. That poor cat had no chance. I would have these kids serve their community hours, cleaning waste in the Siberian Tiger cage at the zoo, as well as the African Wild Dogs exhibit as well. Maybe they will truly learn the lesson of what it feels like to be hunted!

It's a shame they can't be barred from having pets for the rest of their lives.

100 hours community service... their weekends are inconvenienced for maybe two months. *clap* *clap* *clap* Hooray for the harsh animal abuse laws in our country!!!
Christ, the one family of one of those monsters gets the most severe crime having to give up their dog... if I was that kids father I'd just put the little #$&*(&% up for adoption instead.

I'm hoping someone with some legal background can chime in here. What measures can (or have) the family take in order to re-cooperate the $10,000 in damages these 2 kids did?

Don't know what they did or will do specifically but they could try applying to the Victims of Crime program (although this only provides compensation for injuries and not property damage). They could have also worked with the Crown to seek a restitution order against the offenders. I think the ship sailed on that one because I don't recall seeing restitution ordered as part of the sentence. Another option, and my personal favorite, is to sue the offenders in Provincial Court.

And some accomplices get probation...
http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...2-c252457fb560
So at the end of the day, we have 200 hours of community service and probation at the punishment for microwaving a cat... Justice is indeed blind...
That said, given the wide range of similar acts in our confessional thread, and presuming that all members here are fine upstanding citizens... are we any better?

That's an interesting point to me. You even notice there being a bias in that thread towards our little furry feline buddies. Several people (unfortunately myself included) admitted to some level of animal abuse when we were kids, yet the one about the cat seemed to resonate more than any other (with me at least).
Really when you look at it biologically there isn't a whole lot different between a cat, a gopher and a frog. However given that we keep cats as pets and their arguably the cutest of the three it seemed to be worse to harm a cat than a frog.
In the case of the microwaved cat I suppose it's different because the animal in question was a pet rather than a wild animal and the means of killing was more disturbing. Also, many of the incidents in the confessions thread were made by kids of young ages (7-10) ... when teenagers start doing stuff like that it seems a little different. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's how it seems to me.

In my other thread, myself and others agree that 'bike thieves should die a slow, painful death'. This kind of crime, albeit much, much worse than stealing a bike, I can't think of a better punishment.

I think microwaving a cat, is a million times worse than dropping frogs off of bridges, or throwing a rock and killing a gopher instantly...I admit to being a little more than shocked with some of the animal abuse things being admitted to, but this microwaving incident goes way beyond what I've read in that thread. These kids seemingly got a kick out of seeing a cat boiled to death in a microwave. That is immensely cruel, and one of the worst things I've ever heard done to an animal.

The messages they left for the family were almost as disgusting as the act.

I never claimed it was right what I did, nor did I feel the need to brag about it. If I had done that as a teenager and had killed an animal I would deserve everything mentioned in this thread as well. I was younger, and never fully intended to hurt the cat, it was sheer curiosity into the thought cats always landed on their feet. Being that young I never thought of the consequences that it might not land, and might actually hurt itself.
