I'm partial to anything taylormade to be honest. I played with a guy that had a new callaway that he let me try and I hit my taylormade further. but i did hit the callaway about 60 yards past where he was hitting it. haha
A Taylormade is another I am considering. I am not that partial to brands, but I would like to get something that, at least I have heard of before. I was looking at the r7 Draw or possibly the r7 460. But the idea of those removable weights looks a little too serious for me, and possibly something I would never use.

The movable weights are a simple way to reduce a slice or a hook, I got my dad using a r7 HT and he went from a Banana slice to more of a power fade.
Sounds like we have some golf experts here, so I will ask you guys. When do you know when it is time to up grade the beginner set. I have been golfing for 4 years now, maybe 10-15 rounds a season and I have started to hit the ball fairly consistently but I have leveled off around 100 strokes. Would you say it is time for new clubs?
I bought the Callaway x460 driver with the graphite shaft on Wednesday and took it to the driving range last night. So far I am definitely happy with the purchase. I was hitting it a lot straighter than I was with my previous driver. The only down side were those stupid plastic tees that the driving range has. It set the ball up way too high. So some of my shorts caught the top of the driver and went way up in the air and went hardly any distance. But when the ball did connect the driver makes a great noise and the ball went straight and far. I can't wait to use it tomorrow when I go golfing and I can tee it up at a reasonable height.

Well... 100 is still pretty high (although i am hardly better) so i am guessing lessons would help a LOT more per dollar spent then new clubs.
That being said, i saw a huge improvement in my game when i upgraded from a set of $140 starter clubs (for the entire set including bag!) to a far better set. But i think that had more to do with how bad the old clubs were and less to do with the new clubs being better then last years version of decent clubs or one brand versus the other, for example.
Seeing as we a some golfers on this forum I thought it would be interesting to see what each of us carries in our golf bags.
Irons: Mizuno True T-Zoids - 3 to PW, FW, SW, LW & 60 Degree wedge (Hey you can never have too many wedges)
Also sometimes carry a Callaway Steelhead 2 Iron (If its a short corse because I can hit that thing straight and far enough)
Hybrid: None
Driver: Ping Si3 - 9 Degee - Graphite Stiff Flex OR Calaway Steelhead - 9 Degree - Steel Stiff (I carry two, so I hit the range before the round and see which one I'm hitting good that day)
Fairway Woods: Calaway Steelhead 5 Wood (Don't need a 3 wood hit my 5 wood far enough)
Putter: Ping Craz-E OR Mizuno T.P. Mills (Once again depends which one feels good usually the Ping tho I like the way it sits)

Take some lessons!
Not to sound like an A$$ but if you have leveled off go take some lessons, its amazing what someone else can see in your swing that you can't feel.
Also one of the biggest tips I can tell new or struggling golfers, NEVER listen to your friends, go talk to a pro. Your friends are probably hacking it around the course like you, so what makes you think they can teach you anything about developing your swing.

New clubs help for sure... beginner sets are typically junk. A quality driver will give you at least 20 more yards than a beginner model... at least thats what I have found.
The best advice (aside from taking lessons), is practice putting. Maybe trade in that beginner putter for an Odyssey or Taylor Made putter. When I tossed my $40 Mizuno putter for a $150 Taylor Made Rossa putter... I dropped about 5 strokes off my game. Remember, you use your putter more than any other club. Get good at it, and you can turn those three putts to two. That was my difference between shooting 100 and shooting 90.
This is what I have in my bag:
1wd -Nicklaus with Fujikura Graphite Shaft (custom) 9.5' loft.
3wd -Spalding "Pro Response" 14' (its crap)
Taylor Made Rescue Dual - 4 (I'm not consistent with it enough, but its nice)
3-PW - Spalding "Pro Response" (also junky, but do the job and due to be upgraded soon)
SW - Titleist DCI (its sweet, worth every penny)
Putter- Taylor Made Rossa Daytona CGB II
I played River Spirit on Saturday. I didn't like it. Played Cattail 9 and Spirit 9, and on both of those there are some very nice stretches, but in other spots the holes are so close you are dodging other people's balls on your own fairway, and it is just too tight. I'm not sure what Millburn 9 is like, but I fell they may have been better served with 18 holes instead of 27.

I am looking to go purchase a new 58 - 60 degree wedge soon. Any recommondations. I have looked at the clevelands black pearl and the mizuno MP-T. I want to put a little more spin on the ball and hear that the Mizuno is good for that. TIA
I would suggest going to Canadian Tire or Walmart and pick up a cheap set. Use that set for a few rounds to see which clubs you like and which ones you dont. Use the rest of the money to go and buy individual clubs to replace the ones you dont like and garbage the ones your dont like.
