I'm proud to say I've never been to Chinook mall since their last expansion. The hassle of driving down there is a huge deterent with all the traffic although it may be better now that the Glenmore underpass is complete.

I go to chinook whenever I want to buy something, because they have pretty much everything. if you go on a weeknight, traffic is fine. you can park right by the door if you go to the second level in the back (west side entrance by the food court)

I do miss the old version of the mall. I grew up there from 93-99, going to Milton Williams Jr and Henry Wise Wood Sr. Go Milton Marauders!!

HOW??? You can park anywhere you would like in Chinook between the hours of opening and 11ish and after 5. I worked there and shop there a ton and let me say you can always find parking, the only time it's hard is during Christmas week (especially Boxing Day).

The only part that was for you was the 'how' .. everything else was directed towards people who say the parking is horrible. I might as well add the driving down there isn't that bad of course it depends on where you live, I live in Evergreen and it only takes me 10 minutes by car, 5 by train, and 15 minutes by car during traffic..

I would suggest getting you watch fixed. According to Calgary Transit's website the timing is 12 minutes from Fish Creek to Heritage Station. Assuming you live within 200 metres of the Fish creek station, it will take you 20 minutes to get there after counting walking time- not 5 minutes as you claim. I also seriously doubt the driving times you have shown as well.
What many people are getting at is this- as the mall expands it gets harder to get in and out of. When there used to be a Safeway on the south side there was ample parking there, and a quick access from Glemore westbound. Now that is gone. Possible expansion may also remove other quick access points to the mall; making it no longer a matter of going there for one or two items.

Depends on the time of the day, but he/she is right. I can actually leave my home and be at chinook in 10-15 minutes, now if there is traffic it may take a little longer. Its actually funny it all depends on which way the traffic lights are working. I can acutally make it to work driving downtown in 25 minutes from Evergreen at 7 AM. Now coming home is a totally different situation.
But it takes a little longer than 5 minutes by train (it is probably equivalent to driving)

Or not. Maybe you can come to my house and go for a drive with me and I can show you how I can make it to Chinook within 10-15 minutes, I don't even speed. Another thing I don't walk to Fishcreek, I'm counting the time it takes when you get on the train and go to Chinook (park'n ride).

It's physically impossible to get from Fish Creek to Chinook in 5 minutes on the C-Train. Calgary Transit's website shows it as a 12 minute trip. There's no way you're doing it in less than half that time.
Evergreen to Chinook is about 10km (depending on where in Evergreen you're starting from), so if you average a km/minute (60km/h) and didn't hit any red lights, you could make the drive in 10 minutes.
I live in Kingsland, just south of Chinook, and have a sister who lives in Millrise, so I have made that drive many times, and it usually takes 15-20 minutes if there's traffic (and the only time there isn't traffic is late at night - after the mall is closed - or Christmas morning). If they ever make Macleod Trail free-flowing at Southland and Heritage, like they did at Canyon Meadows and Anderson, then the 10 minute trip might be more common.

I would guess this is more tower form mixed use development - office and residential perhaps in the surface parking lots. Not really mall expansion per se. We'll see.

I don't think so. They own all the land across Macleod going to the Ctrain station. I doubt they will waste the only room there is left to grow the mall by building towers.
When I worked there I saw the early plans for the last expansion and there were a lot of big name stores that never ended up opening a store. I think they're planning to build something similar to South Coast Plaza in LA where there is a bridge that crosses the road to another building.

There's already stores dying in the new expansion, better add more!

There were stores that failed before the expansion too.
They wouldn't be expanding if they didn't think it would be profitable.

I'd be all for having a bridge overhead more towards Glenmore. I've been in that underground walkway 3-4 times and I always assume I'll get shanked.

I am assuming that you mean 12 minutes from the time the train pulled out of fish creek until the time it pulled in to chinook station.
I'd imagine that it would take at least 10 minutes to walk from the platform to the doors of chinook that are under the food court.

Yeah, I saw some preliminary plans with towers on the east side of the mall. Makes sense to get rid of the surface parking since they have the massive underground parking lot now.
