However, the premise of a dorky young wizard growing into his power is just so cheesy I cannot see how it could possibly have gained such international notority.
Same thing I thought. Then i read the series. It's addictive. It doesn't have superior writing or a superior plot but there is something about the entire package that brings a smile to your face while you read the books.
