What's university all about, really? I'd say one of the biggest things it's about is learning how to be a critical thinker
Do you really need to take 20 history courses to learn critical thinking and to do research? I agree that some amount of history and philosophy is useful to everyone, but in my opinion if you are in university or any kind of school that is supported by tax money you are learning a proffession to pay those taxes back someday. This thread is filled with courses that people are just taking for fun, when some welder on bombardier is burning his wrists red.

Anything to do with politics, you need a lot of historical background. Theory (poli-sci) is nice, but History puts a lot of things into practice.
Policy History - why certain things failed, extremism - why it happens and social factors, governments past and present, diplomacy - how it is conducted, famous statesmen and their stratagies - if you plan on going into politics or government work in general at all, you really need to know that type of thing. Want to work in certain areas of Civil service? Diplomat? Policy analysis? Essential to have history.
