Man, I love storms in Calgary. So intense. In Victoria all we get is this drizzly rain garbage all the time... but in Calgary, the weather just gives 'er! Thunder, lightning, the works!

God I love this city sometimes. They have completely stopped tracking problems on Deerfoot, and just assume it is a problem - quite correctly. I love the "Slow Down! Possible problems ahead!" sign they have up, night or day.

I just spent 3 hours on Deerfoot about 500m away from the McKnight turn-off. The entire area was completely flooded, there were literally cars that were ENTIRELY under the water. They finally started re-routing traffic up the 36th lane (on which traffic is meant to be going the opposite direction and merging with Deerfoot) but it still took me a good 45 minutes from there to get to Edgemont as numerous other intersections were flooded. Absolutely insane!

Damn, the city is on the verge of essentially declaring a state of emergency.

Tried 8th and it seemed a bit better. But the guy in front of me didn't make. Stopped halfway through. As the water surrounded my car I made went around him and got through.

Good thing my Saturn sits a little higher than most sedans. I think that was the difference between getting through and not getting through.

Don't drive tonight if you don't have to.
Pretty much the exact same story as me, except I tried to cross from 6th ave to 14th st. south bound and the freakin civic in front of me swamped just as I start to go through, so I'm freakin stuck halfway! I had to get out with my buddy, walk through the almost-to-the-knee deep river, and push this guy's civic like half a block out of the lake that had formed. Luckily my Jetta seemed fine... his civic must have been really low to the ground.

Really scary ride all the way home though, lots of roads that were basically unusable downtown under 9th ave., pretty much any low-lying area.

sounds like one hell of storm. hopefully everyone is ok. i just love watching how much power nature actually has. those lightning bolts kinda remind me of a storm we had in winnipeg two or three years ago. i had just seen war of the worlds early in the day, and that night we had some crazy lightning. The next morning I come out and find that my car had been hit and the celenoid chip had been fried. Haha I was pretty scared.

A tornado apparently touched down just outside Stoney/Spruce Grove as well so it sounds like all of Alberta is getting slaughtered by bad weather tonight.

wow...this is worse than I thought. Did anyone see the Chinook LRT station? Tomorrow's drive to work will be worse than anything ever experienced.

Man, nothing exciting out here in Langdon tonight. A bit of rain coming down, but no thunder or lightning. No service interruptions to my satellite or internet.

Sounds like it was pretty intense in the NW.

I still hold by the theory that the NW quadrant of the city has the most volatile weather. I recall painting homes in Edgemont back when I was a poor university student. We rarely had a full week without some crazy weather blowing in and screwing up our job. Meanwhile in the Southwest and SouthEast it was beautiful and sunny.

Well that was a fun drive around the city....we just got hammered tonight. Seriously almost every intersection I passed has a nice big puddle. But back roads were clear and it was smooth sailing once I hit Beddington.

I was driving home northbound on Blackfoot, and there was a car completely under water under the Ogden Rd overpass. Just unbelievable. How does that happen?

Living in Whitehorn, the sirens are going off like crazy, almost non-stop. I love these storms when I'm tucked away at home, but they're not quite so much fun when I'm trying to get home.

I was down by the reservoir tonight and at the ver end of Crowchild where it hits Glenmore park there was a manhole that was blown off by the water rushing up through it onto the street. The manhole cover was sitting on top of the column of water rushing out a couple feet in the air. It looked like a freaking cartoon! Southbound Crowchild was backed wwwwaayyyy up as it looked like Glenmore was completely stopped.

Yeah, I headed out at about 7:45pm, crazy...

saw the traffic piling up ahead of me on crowchild right before 17th, so I turned on 17th, then saw traffic piling up right around 22nd st. and bolted south just missing whatever must have happened along there.

While driving along memorial the whole southside seemed flooded, I was actually scared the river might be up that high, it seemed pretty unlikely but it was in the back of my head.. I was thinking crap, I'm going to float away here haha.

I was going to take Memorial to get home but I had a feeling it would be really bad.
