Like I said, Bush has not shown that he is the kind of leader that cares what non-Americans think. I also get the impression that in his own mind, he is regarded as a hero around the world for invading Iraq and that his personal and religious reason are greater than any of the political reason he stated. If he feels in his heart that what did was right, then why would he go and plant weapons there? Let's say he did care what the world thought, that would be a risky move and if it backfired would just make him look worse. He is smart enough to not even try that. Bringing chemical suits to Iraq really means nothing as far as Iraq having large stockpiles of WMD. I have a fire extinguisher in my car, that does not mean I expect a fire to break out any time.

Isn't the first job of any world leader to look after the self interests of his nation first and then concern himself with the global community second? There is no chance that Bush or the American's are going to kneel to the wishes of France Germany Russia or any other country if thier interests come first. The concern of the global requirements is supposed to fall to the UN.

I'm pretty sure that Bush in his mind thought that taking out Iraq and any inherent threats that could come from that region was right in his mind. Based on the information that he had at that time based on what was poor intelligence he made a bold move, and I have 0 problems with that, based on the information that I had at that time.

Why wouldn't he have planted weapons in the desert to justify himself. As much as he had a coalition of the willing, he had a coalition of the unwilling. Wouldn't it make sense for him to try and sway them to his side so he could get thier troops into Iraq to help him settle things down, which would result in a lesser loss of American Troops.

It's not a as much of a half-baked conspiracy to think that Bush had personal and economic reasons for invading Iraq. If anything, the stories of WMD and imminent threats from Iraq are the half-baked conspiracies.

Bringing chemical suits and atrophine into a theatre of war has everything to do with a suspicion of Iraq having that capabiltity. You don't fly over 100,000 chemical suits and masks just to pull the wool over the international communities eyes. Its expensive and it reduces troop efficiency.

I'll bet you would be glad that you had the fire extinguisher in your car when by chance a fire does break out if ever.

heck Clinton backed going into Iraq, but with UN support. A difference? Sure, ... but Iraq was clearly on his agenda as well.
And if Bush had got the UN backing we would not be having this delightful conversation. Iraq has been a sore point since 1991. But you don't invade a country that is not a threat without sme solid evidence. What the US had did not hold up in the international court of opinion (the UN).

Actually, its standard issue for the Marines (can't comment on the Army but I would assume the same). The US would not send anyone to war without it now a days.

Amusing thread.

But, honestly, why hasn't it been closed yet?

I have seen other threads less childish then this one, rightfully shut down.

People have stated their points.

People have vented a little.

Time to move on, no?

Just a thought ...

This is like a disfunctional family where the simmering anger has finally blown up and mommy and daddy (and daddy 2) are pummeling each other. I'm sure when the cops (KevanGuy)arrive, no one will press charges, there will be make up sex and everything will be back to normal.
Make up sex with Mommy, Daddy, AND Daddy 2?

Wow, this really IS a dysfunctional family.

These are the type of comments that are even more telling of a posters inability to artfully carry on a discussion. There wasn't even a lead up to this, just Whammo.

It's more like siblings IMO, but then we managed to establish last night that, as long as they're sterile, there is no reason they can't be gay, married (or unionized) siblings having make-up sex.

With regards to Iraq (and the war on terror), as I posted in another thread it seems there is alot of activity and rhetoric going on, but not much in the way of results. But the two are confusing. Iraq to me is like the allies in WW2 finally acknowledging the growing Nazi threat and then invading El Salvador, all the while claiming a crushing blow was dealt to Hitler's plans.

BUT, this thread is not really about Iraq. It is about a growing feud on this board between two great powers. Powers so great, the outcome of this war will change our CP lives as we know it.

I doubt it.

I don't lie awake at night plotting Lanny's demise and I doubt he does the reciprocal. This is, after all, fake life.

I don't see that huge a change of position either.

Lanny tells us he changed his mind. Now you're saying he didn't?

So just for the record, this type of post is acceptable behaviour on the board?

I'll keep that in mind then. 'F' bombs are condoned by the moderators. Strange because the posted Calgarypuck Guidelines seem to indicate it isn't acceptable.

FDW ...

don't start that again ... seriously.

We do our best to keep an eye on things, but the strings pile up pretty quickly.

Peddle ... disagree all you want, but like I've told Lanny 11,000 times ... cursing on our message boards, it can terminate advertising revenue without notice.

I think someone should start a Gilbert-Savard debate on the main board so we can focus some of this negative energy into a hockey related debate.
