Of course, feel free to miss watching Liverpool play tomorrow. There will be plenty of other people watching. Your choice.......

They do have the ability to play non-boring football but a non-scouser rarely gets to see it. Instead we are pained with watching Benitez play chess! And how could I not watch the CL final!?!? It's better than the freakin' Super Bowl!

SPOILERS!!!
Good evening and welcome to Athens where the tension has been building for days ahead of the biggest club game in the European calendar - the UEFA Champions League final. The match is a repeat of one of the most memorable finals in the 52-year history of the European Champion Clubs' Cup, the 2005 showpiece when Liverpool FC came back from three goals behind to defeat AC Milan in a penalty shoot-out. [5 minutes to kick-off]

What a slow half for Milan. Just as it seemed that they couldn't get anything going, a free kick by Pirlo near the end of the half opened up the scoring, taking a deflection off Inzaghi's shoulder to find it's way into the back of the net.
Liverpool seemed to be the strongest side in that first half but were unable to keep their shots down. Hopefully the second half has a much better pace, and once it opens up I think Milan will put this one away.

45 Inzaghi (Milan) scores on free-kick! Milan take the lead just before the break as Andrea Pirlo's low curling set-piece from just outside the penalty area takes a wicked deflection off the body of Filippo Inzaghi to give Pepe Reina no chance. Inzaghis 37th goal in UEFA Champions League history is one of the most important in his career to date.
At half-time Milan have the advantage thanks to Pirlo's deflected free-kick. Liverpool will feel unfortunate to be going in behind after having the better of possession but the Milan goal was one of few chances in a tightly contested first period.
82 Inzaghi (Milan) scores! Kaká slips the ball through two Liverpool defenders to Inzaghi who, all alone with just Reina to beat, goes wide and slides the ball low past the Spanish goalkeeper with his right foot. His second of the game puts Milan on the brink of victory with just eight minutes of the 90 remaining.
89 Kuyt (Liverpool) scores! Liverpool swing over a corner and Daniel Agger's flick-on comes to Dirk Kuyt who gives the English side hope by nodding the ball in from close range
The final whistle goes and Milan survive an anxious last few moments to become champions of Europe for the seventh time, overturning their defeat against Liverpool of two years ago. Inzaghi's two goals proved decisive in the end despite a late rally that saw Kuyt give Liverpool late hope.

I wonder if this final will be mired in controversy over that Pirlo freekick deflecting off of what seemed to be Inzaghi's arm.
Incidentally, that Calgary Heineken commercial was pretty cool.

Didn't see it, but isn't it legal as long as it was ball to hand, and not hand to ball?

You won't get a more die-hard Liverpool fan than me but, no, I don't think that there's any controversy there. Good goal, no problems with it at all. I thought that there should be more time added on at the end but them's the breaks.
Congrats to Milan.

What was up with waiting so long to bring on Crouch? He was dangerous as soon as he got on the pitch.
Very happy with the end. Been a Milan supporter for some time.

Benitez has done very well at Liverpool but I question his entire selection here and not bringing Crouch on until the waning moments was a huge mistake. Some Milan players had already expressed concern about the big man. He may be unorthodox and gangly but he is highly effective. He should have been on around the hour mark if not sooner. Also, why the heck was Zenden playing? He clearly wasn't fit. There were better options than him.
Anyway, water under the bridge now. We'll always have Istanbul!!!
Congrats again.

The ball went off Inzaghi's shoulder, so no, I don't think there will be any controversy over this...a lot of angry Liverpool fans perhaps but nothing more.

I think so in matters above the elbow, below the elbow I think its assumed its always hand to ball, even it is not... I was just going off of how pissed off the guy on ESPN was.
It was a lucky bounce, and just wasn't the day for the Anfield boys.
I also thought it was a lousy goal, but fair... just curious on what you guys all thought it was.

I hate Italian football but not as much as I hate seeing scousers win. Livers played pretty well though, a lot of attacking football which I usually don't see from them. The first goal was against the run of play but like in all sports, if you don't take advantage of your chances you can only blame yourself when the other team takes advantage of their own no matter how limited! I don't the ball-to-hand was a foul but I was surprised at the premature end of injury time, myself and the AC fans didn't even start to whistle for the final whistle!

As much as I despise the Pile I was actually pulling for them in this one, never like to see a bunch of crooks win anything.
Nice to see a team who cheated their way into the competition win the whole thing, well done UEFA!!!!
Another thing, when you anounce 3 minutes of added time, allow one substitution, have about 3 goal kicks and 2 throw ins during the last 2 minutes....how the hell do you blow the whistle after 2:40 when the ball is in an attacking position for the losing team and not even close to a netral zone? I wonder how much that stoppage cost them
